Default Can't boot from SATA DVD on MA78GM

Currently running XP Pro on a GA-MA78GM-US2H with 4GB memory. Running an IDE hard drive with slave CD-RW and a DVD writer on a SATA port. DVD writer works fine.

I want to install Windows 7 (64-bit) but the DVD will not boot. I have the SATA port set to native IDE and the boot order set to CDROM first (there is no DVD option in the BIOS). I get the prompt that says "hit any key to boot from CD/DVD" but it boots from the hard disk anyway. What is required to boot from the SATA DVD drive?

    Thanks.

Sometimes you need to hardboot after you make changes to bios to get the DVD to boot with the Windows 7 DVD. Here are some things for you to check in your bios.
    Code:
    Advanced BIOS Features
    Internal Graphics Mode [UMA]
    UMA Frame Buffer Size [Auto]
    x Surround View Disabled
    Onboard VGA output connect [Auto]
    Init Display First [PCI Slot]
    AMD C1E Support [Software SMI]
    Virtualization [Disabled]
Patch AMD TLB Erratum (Note) [Enabled]
    AMD K8 Cool&Quiet control [Auto]
 Hard Disk Boot Priority [Press Enter] Enter look for DVDRW
    First Boot Device [CDROM]
    Second Boot Device [Hard Disk]
    Third Boot Device []
    Password Check [Setup]
    HDD S.M.A.R.T. Capability [Disabled]
    Away Mode [Disabled]
    Full Screen LOGO Show [Enabled]

The only options I have for hard disk boot priority are my hard disk and "bootable add-in cards." There is no DVDRW option.

I do have an IDE DVD-ROM in another computer. As a last resort, I guess I can install that in place of my IDE CD-RW but I was hoping to avoid that hassle.

Are you sure you burned a good image file of windows 7 to DVD?
What image maker software did you use?

I used Nero. The DVD boots fine from my backup PC with an IDE DVD-ROM.

Set all IDE to Cable Select.
Have you checked any other bootable DVD's or cd's to see if it is Windows 7? First lets make sure it is not that Windows 7 and that it is the SATA DVD drive. Then try the SATA wire for the SATA DVD drive connector should be on the SATA5 the last SATA port. Then go into bios and set it as:
    Code:
    Integrated Peripherals
    OnChip IDE Channel [Enabled]
    OnChip SATA Controller [Enabled]
    OnChip SATA Type [Native IDE]
x OnChip SATA Port4/5 Type IDE IDE
    Onboard Audio Function [Enabled]
    OnChip USB Controller [Enabled]
    USB EHCI Controller [Enabled]
    USB Keyboard Support [Disabled]
    USB Mouse Support [Disabled]
    Legacy USB storage detect [Enabled]
    Onboard 1394 Function [Enabled]
    Onboard LAN Function [Enabled]
     SMART LAN [Press Enter]
    Onboard LAN Boot ROM [Disabled]
    Onboard Serial Port 1 [3F8/IRQ4]
    Onboard Parallel Port [378/IRQ7]
    Parallel Port Mode [SPP]
x ECP Mode Use DMA 3

I tried the Win7 RC DVD that I successfully used on my backup PC and it would not boot either. I moved the SATA DVD cable to port 5 (SATA2_4) and disconnected the IDE CDROM. In the BIOS, the IDE hard drive shows up as CH 0 Master and the SATA DVD shows up as CH 1 Master. The other BIOS settings are as you indicated. Still no go.

I will switch the jhard drive umper to cable select next.

Here's another question that would solve my problem: is there any way to install 64-bit Windows 7 other than booting from the DVD? When I put it in the Win7 64-bit DVD while running XP, it says it says the installation disk isn't compatible with my version of Windows and I must boot from the DVD.

Did this. Didn't make any difference. I guess my only option at this point is to install a DVD on the IDE channel.
