    Question Gigabyte X58-UD3R i7 920 Overclock (hot?)

    I tried on the processor section but maybe I have more luck here could it be a mobo problem ? or Bios ? :/

    I have a i7 920 D0 running stock clocks.(2.8Ghz 133*21 turbo)
    When I load prime95 and test my system it runs a nice 69C cpu temp in RealTemp on Idle it runs 43 - 45.
    Room temp is 20 - 22C
    I have a Gigabyte X58-UD3R v1.0 (bios F6)
    3x2Gb OCZ Titanium 1600mhz ram
    2x Sapphire 4870 Toxic in Crossfire
    In a Lian Li A71-B case with Zalman fans running 100%
    My CPU cooler is a Cooler Master V10 mounted with ArticSilver5
    Now I see guys running over 3.6Ghz not breaking sweat what am I doing wrong ?

    What is your vCore set at? Don't worry too much about your idle temperatures, mainly focus on your load temps. At 69, you are still within the safe zone but I think you should probably get better numbers with that V10 you are using.

    i hit 70c on the hottest core to 67 on the coolest core @3.8ghz with akasa nero,i would try re-seating heatsink...dont but paste on the copper contacts underneath but apply a thin strip to the aluminium strips and see if its any better,also ive set cpu volts to normal with c1e enabled and everthing else enabled performance enhance set to standard qpi volt 1.28000 and ram 1.66 try those volt settings

    Sorry for the late response but there where some thunderstorms here. :-)

    Well my CPU is on 1.3V and I have everything set to auto and standard.
    I mangaged to get 3.15Ghz at 79C so I just upped my BCLK to 150Mhz.
    Even I did use these settings http://forums.tweaktown.com/317299-post2.html

    Witch worked exept when I run Prime95 at max heat it did go to 100C after 15-20 sec.

    I am just trying to give all the info I have.

    Thanks alot for trying to help me :-)

    thats way too hot for 3.15ghz your cpu is voltaged too high set it on normal and qpi on 1.28000 and enable everthing you should be able to run @3.8ghz with those volts only make sure your coolers fitted correctly with enuff tmp

    Hi guys,

    Well I refitted my CPU cooler, that made my cpu 3C cooler.
    Then I changed the voltages to the setting you told what saved another 9C
    I upped the BCLK to 190 now uncoremp x18 and mem at 1520Mhz
    Temp Idle 34-39C full load 3.99Ghz 68-72C

    Really nice help guys :-)
    I am happpyyyyyyy :-)

    here's my setup:

    Intel Core i7 920 d0 @ 4.01 GHz (191x21);
    Settings:
    QPI x36 (6876); Uncore x17 (3247);
    VCore (reported by CPU-Z): 1.344-1.36V (vdroop enabled, bios setting 1.39V)
    VTT (BIOS Setting): 1.29V
    everything else auto; ht+turbo enabled, c1e+eist disabled;

    CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper Z600 + 2 x Noctua NF-12S push-pull

    Gigabyte EX58-UD3R v1.6 FF

    Kingmax 3x2GB @ 1146 MHz (191x6) (i experience overvolt to 1.6V on automatic voltage @ 1333 (133x10) @ Stock CPU Freq , seems the default freq for these rams is 1066 MHz).. i won't risk hitting 1528 MHz (191x8) ram freq without proper ram cooling, and i also think that's not much needed..

    Temperatures:

    Windows Idle 42-52C depending on ambient temp (20-30C)
    Prime95 small fft load ~92 after a minute, then after a few more (3-4 minutes) hits max 98 and seems stable.. the lowest for longest i've kept it is 96 max @ ~20C ambient with open door (it's winter here now)

    Also, I tried lower voltages on CPU in vain, i reach prime stability only @ 1.344/1.36 (load/idle)

    I think this is a good 24/7 setting, since i'd never load the cpu as with prime in real-life apps..

    What do you think guys? (cooler re-seated to optimal setting, bios idle temps around 35-40)
    I'm also planning to stick two Coolink SWif 802's on the side case for more fresh air (the space inside is a bit used up by cables and drives)..
