Default New System Need some Info

Would like to build a new system using a Gigabyte either a 775 or lga 1156 board, and either a core 2 quad or i7 cpu. Have not built a system in a while, any help would be appreciated.

I found this little thread on the question LGA1156 or LGA1366 there are some informative answers. Basically if you want to run multiply GPU's and are a serious gamer then LGA1366 is the go with the X58 Chipset. More Basic, X58 = Enthusist P55 = mainstream.

Well If you want to run it in tripple channel mode (recommended for best preformance) then you are going to need 3 or 6 DDR3 sticks the same. It is recommended that you buy them in kit for ie: 6gb Kits 3X2gb sticks to make sure they work well with each other. so your options are really 6 or 12 gb's 6 really is enough currently.

What brand works the best with this board, G-Skill, Geil, ocz, patriot, and what speed DDR3 2100+/1333/1066/800 MHz memory modules. Last system I built was a Nforce 2 dual channel, so I need a little refresher. I will go 3 channel 3x2 or 6x2.

go i5 for the long run tinker potential.

don't buy a gigabyte board until they fix the s3 sleep issues that plague them. i'm tired of boards that can't sleep when overclocked. gigabyte boards oc like a mofo, but man s3 sleep is important!

X58 S3 Sleep issues are resolved Sunburn74, so if you were waiting you can buy now :)

I suggest X58 myself as well, if your budget allows for it. As far as ram, check the two DDR3 reviews in my signature for the memory I have been using, works great! If you need other suggestions on ram though, please do let us know what you are thinking of spending
