Thread: Intel 860 with Intel Turbo Boost on GA-P55-UD5

Default Intel 860 with Intel Turbo Boost on GA-P55-UD5

Ok, I have a slight problem here.

I have a GA-P55-UD5 and a Intel Core i7, and when I enable Intel Turbo Boost at 1600Mhz on my RAM it will only run at 2.9Ghz only, but if I run my RAM at 1333Mhz it will run at the correct speed. Why is that?

I paid for 1600Mhz RAM and I feel ripped off that I must sacrifice my CPU speed if I allow it to run at its full potential, and I sure didn't pay that extra money if I allowed it to run at 1333Mhz.

That's strange, is the ram multi + voltage the only thing you changed?

You might need to add QPI/VTT voltage to the memory controller. This is usually requiered to run the RAM faster/tighter, but normally only affects stability.

This is really a shot in the dark, as I have never seen RAM multi affect turbo mode (on my X58 at least). Maybe it's an early BIOS issue? Maybe that's how these new CPU's "react" to low voltage?
Hopefully someone with the same setup as you will give you the answer, and you should probably also fill out a template with your settings to make things easier....

you have to raise the bclk to achive full 1600mhz ram speed as it maxing out at its stock cpu speed

How much should I raise the BCLK too? And if I do I must modify the voltages right?

You may or may not have to raise voltages. I do suggest you set your own QPI/Vtt and ram voltage manually though.

Sorry, I have not used P55 yet myself. What is your default Bclk and what memory multipliers do you have, then I can advise you of what you can set for 1600Mhz ram speed. Also what is your CPU multi options

Here are the images of my current settings in the BIOS:

    Imageshack - 15102009890
    Imageshack - 15102009891
    Imageshack - 15102009892

Also, to answer your question I left everything on default settings. My default BCLK is at 133, not sure about the memory multipliers, though the images might contain the info.

I still thought it was too low of a vtt voltage, until screenshot no 2:
    -XMP profile no1 : Profile DDR voltage =1.9v and vtt=1.1v >.<

First of all there should never be more than 0.5v difference between ddr voltage and vtt voltage. And it looks like leaving the voltage on auto (screenshot 3) sets it too high for the Ram... core i7/i5 Ram is usually rated at 1.65v.

Try the same settings with DDR=1.65v, and QPI/vtt=1.25v. If that does not override XMP profile voltages, try disabling XMP, setting mem multi to 2:12 (for 1600) and entering timings manually as well....
I have never used XMP, but is there maybe another profile for 1600Mhz with lower voltage? That profile is definitely wrong (either Ram or BIOS)

By the way, what is your RAM exactly?

all you have to do is set bclk to give you 3.2 ghz,set ram multi to give you 1600 mhz disable xmp and set rated ram voltage and timing...you wont need to touch qpi voltage for 3.2ghz
