Default x58-Extreme and Win 7 Still need intel inf?

    X58-Extreme and windows 7

we still need to download and install <script>document.write("The Intel® Chipset Software Installation Utility installs INF files that inform the Windows* operating system how to configure the chipset for specific functionality such as AGP, USB, Core PCI, and ISAPNP services.

    **Note**
Intel® Chipset Device Software is the new name for the Intel® Chipset Software Installation Utility; this name will be seen when running the installation package.

    **Important**
The Intel Chipset Device Software provides functionality for AGP and USB, not drivers for AGP or USB. DO NOT DOWNLOAD THIS UTILITY IF YOUR DEVICE MANUFACTURER IS RECOMMENDING IT TO CORRECT AN \"AGP DRIVER,\" \"AGP GART,\" OR \"USB DRIVER\" ISSUE; IT WILL NOT CORRECT YOUR ISSUE.")</script>Intel Chipset Software Installation?

    thanks for advice

It would be a good idea to do so.

Most of the drivers included even with the retail Windows 7 will be MS written drivers. Some of the ones in the RC haven't been updated since 2006 (Vista era). I'm betting this will be the case with the RTM too.

Same goes for AHCI drivers. If using a regular magnetic HDD, install the Intel Matrix Manager. If you have a SSD, you may need to keep the MS driver to be able to have the SSD and windows communicate and use the TRIM command.

As Vista and Win 7 share virtually the same driver model, I'm sure you'll see a lot of re-using of Vista drivers especially on established items, where no performance gain could be gotten with newer drivers (By Microsoft, not the manufacturer, their drivers should be an improvement).

If in doubt check the dates on things like the IDE drivers, Sata drivers, USB hub drivers etc. If they look old then definitely update. After all, if the .inf updates weren't needed, Windows 7 wouldn't be in the supported OS list for the newer releases.

    I have the following:
    X58 SLI MB
    2- TB Seagate HDs
    RAID (0)
    Windows 7 64 bit OS
    1) make sure in BIOS that your settings are set for SATA Enabled, as well as RAID Enabled, and that, B/4 you exit, to save settings.

    2) Next set tup / Create your Raid. In my MB, while going through post, hit CTRL + I, which starts the RAID setup. Choose the RAID you want, 0,1,5 etc. And exit.

    3) Run (reccomended clean full install) Of Windows 7. If your settings are correct, you will see 2 HDs combined, like 2 500 GB HDs, should read almost a full TB.

    4) Your machine WILL RESTART SEVERAL TIMES!! ITS NORMAL, DONT, DONT TOUCH THE KEYS!

    5) After the install is complete, and your now on your desktop, check Device MGR, but Windows 7 is ("EXCELENT IN APPLYING CHIPSETS, AND 95% OF ALL DRIVERS NEEDED!!) Typically, you should "NOT" have the need, like with Vista or XP, to manually install drivers, but non the less, check, to make sure, in device Mgr, that you haver no errors.

Then do your updates, etc!!! Good Luck!! ;)

When I try to install intel if in Windows7, it only install ide/sata drivers, so still USB/SMBUS and others doesn't get updated, I have to it manually for every device.
