    Default GA-EX58-UD3R - Memory Issue

My motherboard only detects 4 gigabytes of RAM even though I have 6 gigabytes installed. I installed the memory modules from my triple channel memory kit (OCZ3P1600LV6GK) in the three white slots on the motherboard but the motherboard reports that it only sees 4 gigabytes of memory. Also, in the BIOS under the MB Intelligent Tweaker screen I can see memory timing information for the modules in channels B and C but under channel A only the CAS latency is listed.

I have tried loading both fail safe and optimized defaults in the BIOS, clearing the BIOS using the jumper on the motherboard, and flashing the motherboard's BIOS with the latest version available on the Gigabyte website. This did not solve my problem.

I also tried booting the motherboard with one memory module at a time to try to isolate the problem to my memory. I found that when I place any of my three memory modules in the first memory slot on the motherboard I am unable to boot, but I am able to boot by placing any of my memory modules in another slot. Based on this I believe that my memory is functioning properly.

Are there any more troubleshooting steps I can take to try to fix this problem?

soundslike you have a dead ram slot, you could try turning pc off at the wall and insert ram in the faulty slot and lift slightly and wiggle it from side to side(carefully) then power pc up and see if it sees 6gb...dont do this while pc is turned on as it will blow your ram module...if no luck then you will have to rma the board stating the problem

HMMMM.. interesting, i have a very very similar problem, well my bro's pc does. We just popped in his X58-UD3R 1.6rev after his rev 1.0 took a dump on him the other nite after 5 months of use.

Upon booting and posting, it showed 4gigs of RAM, in windows in shows 6GB . Another thing to note is on the old board, it started completely freezing when barely overclocked. I set this one to the same settings and ran IBT with all but 500mb of RAM being used on 16 threads and it passed no problem. Began downloading some fun stuff from steam and uh oh... system froze. Rebooted to optimized defaults and its fine now.

Sounds like RAM to me... by the way his rig is the same as in my sig , besides the fact he has the 1.6 revision board. What i think im gonna try is swapping out my RAM with his and see what happens. I just dont know how it could pass IBT with that much stress and then freeze while basically doing nothing, same as the other board. We are also using OCZ and i have had mine clocked to 1750 w/ 9 9 9 24 stable , if these things cant handle there rated 1333 then they deserve to be shot (the ram) .

    Any suggestions?

    Hi Guys,

I do have also a similar prob:

After powering the pc up it end in a re-boot loop (on/off cycle) and it seems to me it stuck there,

I assume it is not a circuit issue, anyone any idea?, a friend of mine sad it could be a faulty mobo

Have you tried shorting/ clearing the cmos? Near the sata ports you will see 4 pins labeled clrcmos- touch a screwdriver or place a jumper on the pins in the RIGHT side closer to the sata ports . It may be different depending on your board. Or remove the CMOS battery for a few minutes. If it still dont go, leave the cmos battery out overnight. Remember this is all while the computer is completely unplugged from the wall . Press the power button 4-5 times to drain any remaining juice. If it is done correctly and that was the problem, you should boot up to defaults and be able to enter the BIOS and load optimized defaults . Get there first.

    @dbee

cheers mate, it worked...,btw it might be a stupid question but I am new to Intel core i5 and P55 plattform, the last 5 years I had my head around (now dead) Atholn 3700+ on socket 939. Wat PSU would you recommend me for a i5/P55 based system with some OC.

And is there a OC/Bios guid somewhere to find for P55's (Gigabyte), most function on my new mobo dosent tell me anything except words on my LCD.....

    Thx

Depending what Graphics card you are using, a nice Corsair 650 watt would be plenty. I myself use the Corsair TX750 and would be plenty juice for a gtx260- sli setup.

Not sure where to find an overclocking guide, but there should be many others on this forum with bios settings posted , or try googling it.

On my end, we have memtest'd the memory and it passed perfectly , swapped the ram in my machine and his , works perfectly. This leaves the CPU. Before it would OC to 3.5 and that would be it. Got it to pass at 3.5ghz on IBT with 16 threads no errors . Began downloading on steam and it froze again. Real nasty. This is on a new mobo, different set of RAM, GFX card, only thing left is the CPU. Also formatted the drive and is running on Win7 now.

One thing i noticed is the cpu clock drive is 700mv and the pci clock drive is 700mv. These are at optimized defaults, on my mobo its defaults are 800mv and 900mv, same board different revision. Same occurrence even on the 1.0 revision board. Anybody know what gives?
