    Default GA-EP45T-UD3LR 8GB RAM problem

I am doing a build with a gigabyte EP45T-UD3LR motherboard with an E8400 and 8GB (4 x 2GB) Kingston 1333 MHz DDR3. In Win7 and Win Vista it freezes alot and after lots of testing have found it is a problem with the board using 8 GB RAM.

The BIOS has been updated and the RAM all tests fine with individual sticks and either pair in either channel, but fails memtest (and the system freezes in Windows) with 8GB in. I have tried another board and same result, I have tried bumping the RAM, CPU and Northbridge Voltage up a little bit, same result.

Is there a known issue with this board? Has anyone ran 8GB on this board without problems? Any suggestions for what I can try next?

    Thanks

Normally more MCH Core is needed for large memory configurations, try 1.2-1.26v, and set DRAM voltage to the memory specs if PC Health reports it is too low.
Can you post a screen capture of MemSet main<click >>) and SPD(click spd) windows?

EDIT set Performance Enhance standard for now

Start with somewhat lower memory speeds and test for system stability.
With 8GB of memory, you might not be able to run at the rated memory speeds.
Post your current bios settings using this generic bios template.
    Include a screenshot that displays:
Memset using the SPD and ">>" tabs
cpu-z CPU and Mainboard screens (several instances can be run at the same time)
EasyTune6 --> TUNER tab --> ADVANCE tab --> VOLTAGE tab (only the Voltage tab is needed)
CoreTemp screen [for your cpu's VID (Voltage ID)]

Links for these programs are in the Latest Overclocking Programs, System Info, Benchmarking, & Stability Tools thread.

    + 1 ^^^

8GB may not run at 1333, you may be able to get them running at 1000 though

    Hi Everyone,

I have succeeded with installing 8 Gigs of RAM into this specific motherboard, and my OS of choice is Windows 7 x64.

For a full run down, please see this link:

    http://www.systemcontrol.com.au/dd/R...RAM_8_Gigs.pdf

Cutting a long story short the motherboard required BIOS version F7, released on the 13th of last month, along with a degrade in RAM speed from DDR3 1333 specs to DDR3 1066 specs.

I hope that my findings are of help.

    Cheers

    Davo

    Default BIOS recommendations

    Hi Milkman,

I would probably just upgrade from F5 to F7 without concerning myself with version F6. On the other hand if you had a really early version, like F2 installed and wanted to jump straight to F7 I would recommend moving to F4, or something similar, before making further upgrades.

In your case a version jump of 2 should be fine.

I recommend using the QFlash utility that is accessible from the BIOS rather than flashing from the OS.

    QFlash: Q-Flash

Good luck and please post your results I am curious to read of how you go!

    Cheers

Alright i flashed F7 just a minute ago.
Flashed > bios > load optimized > input all my old settings > noticed some settings(default ones) that i hadn't changed before were now different, maybe more optimizations.
noticed a bios backup to HDD feature and another 1 or 2 options.

At first the bios ran sluggish but on my second or third run through it was zippy.

I would like one recommendation though i have noticed some people have the setting
    "No-execute memory protect" and
    "CPU extended halt (C1E)"
"CPU EIST function" set to disable.
What are they and what can i gain from disabling them? I am also running stability checks now One other setting that changed somthing like 0ps listed as 700mV is now 800mV.

No-execute memory protect is a cpu security feature and should be enabled.
    CPU extended halt (C1E) and
CPU EIST are power saving options that lower cpu speeds at low loads. Both of these should be disabled while overclocking, at least until your system has passed extended stress/stability testing.
Enabling both often causes system instability when overclocking and stress testing.
You can enable both later and then test again to ensure that your system is still stable.

Check out this post for recommended basic settings for a stock system.
Follow steps 1 -4 to provide detailed information if you want additional help overclocking or optimizing your system.

**edit** There is no guarantee that your stable bios settings from a different bios version will still be stable when you flash your bios with another version.
Additional stress/stability testing should be performed after you've flashed and re-entered your previous bios settings.
