Well of course I mean that for slots 3-4 though, if stick 2 is good on 3-4 but will not boot on 1-2 or errors, you may have faulty slots 1-2 or bent CPU pins.
i was surprised when you said "memory is fine, but the motherboard is possibly faulty" *LOL*
yes, i too think only ram-1 is bad. that and slot 2.
i run memtest with stick-2 on slot 1,3,4 resulting no errors. stick-2 can't boot on slot 2.
bent cpu pins ?! omg, that sounds bad...
how do i test procesor ? (besides open it and look at the pins directly ?)
i mean, we have memtest86+ for memory, hd tune for harddisk, but what about procesor ?

You would need to remove the CPU carefully and look at it, sorry there is no way to test this other than by looking.

Ya, if it is not bent CPU pins, then the board and Stick 1 may be faulty.

Can you borrow another stick of ram with, just to try on your slot 2?

okay, i'll do that as soon as i get home... still at work now (GMT+7)
first thing i do when i get my hands on a new ram is test it on slot 2 :)

K, be careful with your CPU, you don't want to bend any pins trying to check for bent pins :)

ok, so i finally RMA the kit and got a new replacement. YAY ! :D

the previous kit default freq was 1060, and the new kit default is 1333. i was like, wow this is diferent then the last one :P
and i notice that memtest detects them as 9-9-9-20 although the bios default/auto setting shows 9-9-9-30...
next, i memtest them using the latest version that i have which is memtest86+ v4.0

    ================================================== ================================

1'st i test them using default values (load optimized setting on bios, everything auto) :
    -------------------------------------
stick-1 in slot 1 : 1 PASS no errors (i assume that stick-1 is good, so now i skip to stick-2)
stick-2 in slot 2 : wont boot (kinda predicted this, i already conclude that slot 2 is foulty from the last test, so no surprise here)
stick-1 in slot 3 : 8 PASS, no errors (i assume that stick-1 is good, so now i skip to stick-2)
    stick-2 in slot 4 : 8 PASS, 5 errors on pass1 test6

    Code:
TsT Pass Failing Address Good Bad Err-Bits Count
    --- ---- --------------- ---- --- -------- -----
    6 1 00004b4ca0c - 75.2MB ffffff7f fffffd7f 00000200 1
    6 1 00004b4ca14 - 75.2MB fffffdff fffff7ff 00000a00 2
    6 1 00004b4ca1c - 75.2MB fffff7ff ffffdfff 00002800 3
    6 1 00004b4ca24 - 75.2MB ffffdfff ffff7fff 0000a000 4
    6 1 00004b4ca2c - 75.2MB ffff7fff ffffffff 00008000 5
    stick-2 in slot 3 : 8 PASS, 1 errors on pass1 test6

    Code:
TsT Pass Failing Address Good Bad Err-Bits Count
    --- ---- --------------- ---- --- -------- -----
    8 1 0006fede008 - 1790.8MB eaa1f1fa eaa1f1da 00000020 1
stick-1 in slot 4 : 7 PASS, no errors (so i assume that stick-1 is good, and stick-2 is foulty)

    ================================================== ================================

now i try manually set the bios (raise voltage to 1.65v)
    -------------------------------
stick-2 in slot 4 : lots of ERROR on test6

then i try added more setting the bios (raise voltage to 1.65v, 9-9-9-20, trc 30)
    --------------------------------------
stick-2 in slot 4 : lots of ERROR on test6

then i try added more setting the bios (raise voltage to 1.65v, 9-9-9-20, trc 30, raise cpu nb vid to 1.3v)
    --------------------------------------
stick-2 in slot 4 : lots of ERROR on test6

then i try change a bit the setting the bios (raise voltage to 1.70v, 9-9-9-20, trc 30, raise cpu nb vid to 1.3v)
    --------------------------------------------
stick-2 in slot 4 : lots of ERROR on test6

then i went back to default setting again (load optimized setting on bios, everything auto)
    -----------------------------------------
    stick-2 in slot 4 : 1 PASS no errors

    ================================================== ================================

then finally, i test both sticks.

1'st with default setting (load optimized setting on bios, everything auto)
    -------------------------
    stick-1 in slot 3 AND stick-2 in slot 4 : 3 PASS, 5 errors on 2'nd pass (pass1, test6)

    Code:
TsT Pass Failing Address Good Bad Err-Bits Count
    --- ---- --------------- ---- --- -------- -----
    6 1 0001b75fc14 - 439.3MB ffffff7f fffffd7f 00000200 1
    6 1 0001b75fc1c - 439.3MB fffffdff fffff7ff 00000a00 2
    6 1 0001b75fc24 - 439.3MB fffff7ff ffffdfff 00002800 3
    6 1 0001b75fc2c - 439.3MB ffffdfff ffff7fff 0000a000 4
    6 1 0001b75fc34 - 439.3MB ffff7fff ffffffff 00008000 5
then i try change a bit the setting the bios (raise the voltage to 1.65v)
    --------------------------------------------
stick-1 in slot 3 AND stick-2 in slot 4 : lots of ERROR on test6

then i change the setting in the bios (raise voltage to 1.70v, 9-9-9-20, trc 30, raise cpu nb vid to 1.3v)
    -------------------------------------
stick-1 in slot 3 AND stick-2 in slot 4 : lots of ERROR on test6

then use the default setting again (load optimized setting on bios, everything auto)
    ----------------------------------
    stick-1 in slot 3 AND stick-2 in slot 4 : 3 PASS, 5 errors on 3'rd pass (pass2, test6)

    Code:
TsT Pass Failing Address Good Bad Err-Bits Count
    --- ---- --------------- ---- --- -------- -----
    6 2 00059abd86c - 1434.7MB ffff7fff ffffffff 00008000 1
    6 2 00059abd86c - 1434.7MB ffffdfff ffff7fff 0000a000 2
    6 2 00059abd86c - 1434.7MB fffff7ff ffffdfff 00002800 3
    6 2 00059abd86c - 1434.7MB fffffdff fffff7ff 00000a00 4
    6 2 00059abd86c - 1434.7MB ffffff7f fffffd7f 00000200 5
    ================================================== ================================

notice the error is the same, but in different address.
so, what does all of this mean ?

does this mean stick-1 is good, and stick-2 is foulty and i should RMA the sticks again ?
will errors on test6 and test8 couses problem later when i use the computer to play games/run applications ? (crashes, BSOD, auto-restart,etc)
will errors on test6 and test8 couses problem later when i use the computer to copy lots of files ? (i mean, will it damage the files without warning)
is there a setting that i could try to make the rams more stable ?

and why is it that when i put the recomended settings manually (9-9-9-20 , 1.65v) memtest detects LOTS of errors on both sticks ? and when i put the settings to default (auto), stick-1 works perfectly well, and stick-2 has a few errors on it ?

should i RMA the mobo too? (couse clearly slot 2 is foulty)

    1. is it safe to raise the dram voltage from the recomended (1.65 volts) to 1.7 volts ? YES
    2. is it safe to raise the cpu/nb vid control to dram voltage from the default to 1.3 volts ? YES
I believe your best option is replace the bad memory again, and try running them in slot 3 and slot 4.
If you are concerned with slot 2 this could be the CPU which we doubt it's the cpu because you have changed or tested the cpu. The motherboard, and or the power supply.

    Default Re: Ga-ma790xt-ud4p + ocz3g1333lvam4gk

good news guys, i've finally solved the problem

from the ocz site, and the box, it tells me that these sticks should run on 9-9-9-20, 1333, and 1.65v.

and from various sites (including this forum), i found out that i should manually set the timings and other bios settings. DON'T USE AUTO, couse the value displayed is not the actual value set.

when i set the bios setting to auto, the bios says i'm running on 9-9-9-20, trc 33, and the command rate (sp?) has no values. but when i run cpuid from windows, it says that the settings are 9-9-9-30, trc33, 1T.

so i went back to the bios setting and set anything manually. 9-9-9-20, trc 30, command rate (sp?) 2T. and i also raise the ddr3 voltage to 1.7v and NBVID to 1.3v.

and here are the memtest86+ results :

    --------------------------------------------

load default setting on bios, everything auto :

    stick1 in slot1 : 1 PASS, no errors
stick2 in slot2 : wont boot (i think slot2 on the mobo is foulty, so no surprise here)
    stick1 in slot3 : 8 PASS, no errors
    stick1 in slot4 : 7 PASS, no errors
    stick2 in slot3 : 8 PASS, 1 errors on pass1 test6
    stick2 in slot4 : 8 PASS, 5 errors on pass1 test6

so i assume that stick1 is good, and stick2 is foulty.
to be accurate, stick2 doesn't like slot3 and slot4 on my mobo, in default settings.

    --------------------------------------------

then after reading from various sites and forums, i found out the setting for my DDR3 should be 9-9-9-20, 2T, trc 30, ddr3 voltage 1.7v (not 1.65v), and NBVID 1.3v.

    stick2 in slot1 : 7 PASS, no errors
    stick2 in slot2 : skip
    stick2 in slot3 : 7 PASS, no errors
    stick2 in slot4 : pass1 test6, lots of errors

i was surprise that stick2 has no errors on slot1 and slot3, even after 7 PASS. couse from the previous test, i thought stick2 was foulty.
to be accurate, stick2 doesn't like slot4 on my mobo, in manual settings.
so i was curious, maybe slot4 is foulty. so next, i test stick1 on slot4.

    stick1 in slot1 : skip
    stick1 in slot2 : skip
    stick1 in slot3 : skip
    stick1 in slot4 : 7 PASS, no errors

it turns out that stick1 works fine in slot4.

so i think, if stick2 works fine in slot3, and stick1 works fine in slot4, maybe i can use them together

    stick2 in slot3 AND stick1 in slot4 : 12 PASS, no errors (that's 12 hours spent)

    YAY ! finally

thx for all the help guys

i read from various sites, about how long should i run memtest. some says 7 PASS, some says errors would likely to appear on the first 3 PASSes, some say just run them overnight to be sure, some say minimum 24 hours, some even say several days...

so i was wondering, is my 12 Hours enough to conclude that my system is (finally) stable ? what do you guys think ?

    Cool Re: Ga-ma790xt-ud4p + ocz3g1333lvam4gk

Only the memory is now stable. I don't like using words like never, or finally. You may find other causes for instability.
Instability: in systems is generally characterized by some of the outputs or internal states growing without bounds. Not all systems that are not stable are unstable; systems can also be marginally stable or exhibit limit cycle behavior.

what i ment by finally is that after all the trouble i've been, i can use this comp using the recomended setting for the rams (with a couple of adjustment) more stable then when the first time i bought it

and yes, it does seems stable now, cross fingers nothing bad is gonna happen. i'm gonna play 3d games everyday to see if everything works like how they should

still wondering, is my 12 Hours memtest enough to conclude that my system is (for now) stable ?
how long or how many pass do you think is enough to use memtest?

slot2 is clearly foulty, i've used 3 kits (a patriot, and 2 ocz) to test it, all of them shows that something is wrong with slot2.
i already RMA the processor, but still the same. so i think it's the mobo.
what do you guys think about the mobo, should i RMA it even if i'm not using slot2 ? will it couse problems in the future ?

I usually run Memtest+ 2 or 3 passes. If no errors I feel confident it's good to go.
so i think it's the mobo
I think it's the mobo now also. It's up to you if you want to rma it, send it off for 3 weeks and wait for a repair.
