Default GA-EP45-UD3R new build - BSOD - Can't install XP OS

Just built my first full system last night and haven't been able to get my OS installed.
This is what I'm running right now. I have other things but went to bare minimum to troubleshoot and get my system working.

    MoBo: GA-EP45-UD3R 1.1
    Bios: F11
    Processor: Q9400
    Memory: OCZ Reaper 1 2gb stick - ocz2rpr10664gk
    HD: WD HD 80gb IDE
    Graphics: HIS H4670S1GH
    PSU: Corsair TX750
    Drive: Sony Optiar model AD-7240S-0B

I know some things about computers but not familiar with every term or what they are. Please be patient and I'll do the best I can.

Just did the bios update to the F11. Loaded optimal settings, then restarted. Changed my memory setting to the 2.1v and 5-5-5-18 as per memory specs.

Tried again to do the install and got another BSOD.
I can't do anything on the computer except access Bios.
I do know that I can't run both sticks of memory right now or the screen won't even come on when I restart it.

Please let me know what info I need to get you for you to help me out.

    Thanks!

    Set performance enhance to standard.

Then please check to be sure you have your IDE CD/DVD and hard drive jumpers set correctly. Master goes on the end of the cable and slave goes in the middle.

What BSOD are you getting, what Error #? Like 0x00000000

Is your install CD SP1 or greater? It MUST Be, if you are not sure see my reply in this post to find out what version it is >>

    Windows XP SP2 Home Retail
The IDE is only on the hard drive the DVD drive is an SATA

I've had all kinda of errors
    0x0000000A
    0x00000019
    0x0000008E

Those were the ones I wrote down.
I've changed the performance enhance to standard.

Ok, please place your SATA DVD Drive on the last Intel (yellow) port, SATA2_5

Set your IDE Jumper to Master and place the IDE Hard Drive on the end of the ribbon cable.

Those are memory related errors normally, can you please try again now that you have change performance enhance setting?

If you still get errors can you tell me if it is always the same install place? Can you test this hard drive and memory on another PC to be sure neither is faulty?

Also, do you have another CD or DVD drive you can install with? Sometimes this can be the issue as well

Did you update the BIOS to F11 or someone else? Just wondering

Yes I updated the BIOS to F11.

I'm running a memory test on my ram right now with memtest86x. I ran it on the one that I was doing some testing with and that one had some problems. This second stick seems to be doing well, so it looks like I found 1 of the problems that are causing my computers issues.

I've tried installing my OS XPSP2 with both memory sticks separately and I've come out with different error codes each time it's finished finalizing and it's gone to the BSOD.

I'll make the changes you suggested and get back to you with an update.

Thanks again for taking the time to help me out!

Ahh, well please let it run then. I suggest 5-10 full passes to be sure, but if you have one failing quickly where the other did not then you likely do have a faulty module then.

Anytime, I am here to help. I can give you full settings, but I need to know a few more things from you first, and you should finish your testing anyway.

Are you manually setting all those voltages above such as MCH Ref, CPU Ref, ect or did you just note what is showing on the left of the BIOS?

Ya I was just writing in what it was showing on the screen as it was.
Only things I changed was 1.8v to 2.1v for the memory and 5-5-5-15 to 5-5-5-18 for the DRAM. Then the turbo to standard like you suggested.
I just deleted the things that weren't there from your guide and made your guide look like my screen the best I could.

Looks like I'm lucky tonight. lol
Memory test on the second stick just lit the screen red. I think it was on the 2nd or 3rd pass. Not paying attention. Just trying to read up on anything else it could be.

From the looks of it both memory sticks are bad.

    I have a question about the memtest86x.
If it shows anything fail it means the ram in faulty, correct?
So both registering tests that failed, basically means I need new ram regardless if it was quickly or on the 2-3rd pass?

Ok, just checking. Please do set Driving strength profiles for each channel to match, set it to 1066 if you are using 1066Mhz ram speed.

Well it can mean bad memory, or bad settings. It does not always mean bad memory, and now that you say both fail I think it might just be your settings.

I will give you full settings to try with both sticks to be sure, first though please tell me if these are 2x1GB or 2x2GB?

    2x2gb
I'm only using one at a time though.
The monitor screen won't come on sometimes if I put both in. Just another problem I'm hoping will be fixed once I can load the OS.

The ram is 1066Mhz ram but also says it's can run @ 1366+ in the specs.

Also since the 2nd failed I restarted the system and made the changes as you suggested.
I decided to run the memtest with your suggestions and it's already failed on the first pass.

Thank you. Full setting would be great! Hopefully it is just the settings and not any of the hardware.

OK, just wanted to be sure. The settings I give you should work fine with both sticks. If it fails to boot please try slots 2+4 instead of slots 1+3
