Agree with Lsd. If any core stops working that = a fail and the program should be stopped so that you can adjust.

As a bit of a retreat on previous advice and to double confirm things, maybe try back with tRead = 9. Run the same test again, and if it remains stable for ~1.5-2 hours I'd say it was tRead that was the cause of the fail. If it stays up after two hours, carry on with the test for at least 8, as you may have found stable settings.

if even with tRead=9 fails after 30 min-1 hour, then go back to tRead=8 and try tweaking something else. We can assume CPU is semi stable, butraising Vcore to 1.3V and turning on LLC should ensure this. Do this then test again on the same settings to see if that helped. If it does, then again, we've cracked it. If not I'd give CPU Termination a tug, to 1.22V thewn 1.24V then 1.26V then 1.28V repeating the Prime test between each raise of voltage. If I remember correctly, my Q8200 only needed 1.28V CPU Term to be completely stable at 3.4GHz, it was Vcore that it needed more.

well im an idiot, and i noticed that one of my channel A tRead was 8, and my channel B tRead was 10.................perhaps this caused the problem?

I set them both at 8 and am going to test again for a while. if it goes passed 30 mins, im gonnna let it go for at least an 1.5-2 hours.

The sweet smell of potential success.

Well spotted on the channel difference. It's always vital to make sure everything matches with channel dependant settings like tRead and Driving Strength etc. It's easily missed.

    Keep us informed.

If you pass at least 8 hours, download Intel Burn Test, set the number of threads to 4 and the test type to maximum stress. Set it for 20 runs, watching temperature. If it gets to 80c, then stop the program, but you should get no where near that IMO with 3.2 and such a reasonable voltage. Post a screenshot of IBT when it finishes or at least post up the GFlops figures and the max temp you reached (CoreTemp will tell you the peak temp it gets to).

All being well, I would go into the BIOS when IBT is done and passed, and save this profile using F11/F12 keys. Also save a copy to a USB stick or a FAT32 partition of a HDD. If you flash a BIOS and reset the CMOS, a lot of the time you loose your profiles stored ion the board's memory.

After this you now have a choice. It seems that as you have no where near 1.3625V and haven't even used LLC yet, that you may have a Q8200 capable of over 3.4GHz. Consider dropping the RAM back to 2.00 and raising FSB to 472 for a nice ~3.3GHz. 100MHz CPU speed will more than make up for the RAM speed lost. You've done the important thing and reduced tRead (which may need changing again with a new RAM multiplier). Depending on your cooler you may match Kicks speed or even surpass it. It'd be nice if you could get a Q6600-like 3.6GHz out of it.

Hah, well i dont want to burn the chip out! haha, this is my everyday computer, that i use for gaming, and for word processing, music, web site building crap like that.

I wouldnt mind crankin the processor up a bit...since it was so easy to get it to 3.2....i guess ill give it a try.

im actually in class now. ive let the stress testing go and should be close to 8 hours when i get back home later.

    ill update you then.

also ive realized there is a new version of realtemp out, so ill have to download that and get my temperatures set up.

Cool. Don't worry about burning anything out. It's all about temperature. Keep an eye out, don't go past ~65c in prime or ~75c in IBT and you're good. Intel's warranty covers you up to 1.3625V, so you may as well use the CPU to its full potential.

Back up all essential data when over clocking ofc as it can cause data corruption if RAM isn't stable for instance. Other than that as long as you monitor things, you're good to go.

7 hours 53 mins of prime95. no errors no warnings. looks like tRead of 8 on both channels holds stable!

im gonna do intel burn test now. after i get the latest real temp and set my temps.
