    MCH ref is definitely one to bear in mind. My Q8200 didn't respond to any change in MCH ref, but the OP's may be different. Coupled with different RAM etc MCH ref may help.

    I have noticed on Quad core CPU's that if MCH ref tuning helps, it usually has to be adjusted up rather than down, most of the time. This is the poopsite to dual cores, which tend to favor lower than stock MCH ref when being pushed.

    upon resetting i set my vtt to 1.22v and proceeded to test IBT again...........

    failed after 2 runs again...and temps got relatively high. which i didnt like seeing.

    so now that ive run vtt at 1.26 and 1.22, im guessing its not gonna work at 1.24 so im not even gonna test it. and glops were so low at 1.26, i think testing at 1.28 and 1.3 vtt would be a waste of time.



    so is this an MCH thing like LSD suggests?

    Full settings are needed for us to even try to guess, and CPU-z under load should be in that image so we can see load voltages applied.

    You may just need more CPU Voltage, which since you are not liking your temps already, may require a lower overclock or better cooler

    Yep, I'm definitely betting on more VCore being needed.

    Do bear in mind that IBT temps are crazy high but in real usage you'll never run your CPU this hot. Nothing else is really capable of heating up a CPU as much as Linpak based programs.

    Personally, for run lengths of 3-5 I'm happy with anything up to 80c on the monitor. before I did my washer mod, I hit 80c after 6 runs at 3.9GHz. My usual "party trick" stability test is 50 runs, standard stress. I certainly wouldn't run 50 IBT's at 80c though. Washer mod done I don't go past 74c in a 22c house (central heating on). I've done my 50 runs at this temp no problems.

    That's not a good idea IMO. With things like VTT, MCH and CPU ref etc, it's not necessarily a case of more = better, it's all about getting the right voltage that works, what ever it may be. MCh and CPU refs scale with VTT, so every time you change it, the refs change automatically. Setting 1.24V may actually give you the perfect values for the linked references which allow you stability. Not saying it will but, never skip a test.

    GFlops figures in the screenshot you posted look bang on for 3.2GHz. This suggests that there's nothing major wrong. Give 1.24VTT a go first then set 1.35V with LLC to see if that gives you a pass. If you're worried, just do two runs initially. If the residual norm values match, at least you know you're going in the right direction. You can then go on to test with Prime, no doubt at more reasonable temperatures.

    using easytune i set VTT to 1.24 and re-tested IBT...here are the results. Temps were significantly lower then when set at 1.22....wierd? What would u suggest now?

    In an effort to exhaust all other possibilities before moving on to more VCore I'd do the following if it were my CPU:

    Set 1.2VTT, manually set 0.760 CPU Ref then set VTT back to 1.22V and re-test

    Set 1.2VTT, manually set CPU Ref one tick higher using Page Up/Down key, then set VTT back to 1.22V and re-test.

    Repeat above, using again one tick higher CPU Ref.

    If this still shows instability, set CPU ref back to 0.760 @ 1.2VTT (or set auto as this does the same thing) and alter MCH ref in the above same way, setting 1.2VTT before altering MCH ref with Page Up/Down (after setting 0.760V @ 1.2VTT first). Test again, after each alteration. Also trey lower MCH Ref this time, again 1, then 2 ticks lower than 0.760 @ 1.2VTT.

    Make sure to do all this on the BIOS, as altering MCH/CPU ref in ET6 works differently and isn't guaranteed to work as intended.

    If all that fails, up the vcore to 1.3625V with LLC on and VTT at 1.22V, both refs on either 0.760V @1.2VTT or auto. This will definitely let you know if more VCore is needed. Don't worry too much about temps, it's only 2 runs and won't damage anything. If 1.3625V isn't stable either then there are two possibilities. Firstly, the heat gen may be causing the instability. Often cooling a CPU better will allow lower voltages to be used as well as stablizing speeds that were impossible at the higher temp regardless of VCore. Second, your CPU may be at or very near its limit.

    Either way, I'd probably consider getting hold of a better cooler. A TRUE, Prolimatech Megahalems, Noctua tower, Zalman 10 series or Titan Fenrir would be ideal, along with a decent high static pressure fan such as a Noctua NF-P12. The cooler you currently have seems to be somewhat struggling with your Quad. Even with a cheap and average Coolermaster Hyper 212, I never reached more than 72c under IBT with slightly over 1.3625V LLC on and a speed of 3.4GHz.

    to be fair, it was quite warmer in my room earlier when it shows the temps at 77c max. it has cooled off since then ( i had the heater in my room on over night so i dont freeze, in the day i keep it off).

    i will tweak the settings again, and let you know.

    edit: just entered your first step into bios, and when i manually set cpu ref to .76, then change VTT back to 1.22, cpu ref changes to .772.

    am i doing something wrong?

    No, Ref voltages scale with VTT. Setting the ref voltage value while VTT is 1.2V simply controls the scaling factor. What you see is perfectly normal. Refs will also rise when they're set on auto, just at the default ratio of 0.760@1.2Vtt or ~63%, it's just that you don't see the changes, just the word "Auto".

    How you have it set is correct.
