    Default Help Please!!!

    Hello,
I just recently built the system in my sig and have had nothing but problems. From the very first OS install attempt its been one random problem after another. To start with it is very hit and miss when installing an OS. I have tried WinXP, Vista and Win7 and all randomly freeze during installation and if they do manage to fully install there are problems after. I originally installed Win7 on the vertex SSD drive but kept getting start-up errors and would have to do a repair with the installation cd. When it would boot properly into the os I was getting totally random freezing while using any program that accessed the internet such as Firefox, Internet Explorer 32 and 64 bit, Thunderbird, Utorrent and Tversity. I would always have to do a hard reset after the freezes. This morning I woke to find a computer that wouldn't boot so I tried unsuccessfully to do another repair. When that didn't work I tried a system restore and got a message saying the restore point was on a partition that needed to be formatted. I got mad and decided the problems were all to blame on Win7. I attempted to install Vista on a WD 1 TB drive and after a couple of crashes and freezes during installation finally got it to install. Once logged in I noticed more problems such as the control panel would not work at all. I am currently trying to reinstall with no success, the installation just keeps freezing on me and I have to hard reset. I should also mention that I cannot access the safe-boot options with either F8 or F12 and the express recovery menu F9 does not work either during boot-up. I sent a message to the Gigabyte technical service asking about this problem and they replied with "make sure you have USB Keyboard support enabled in the bios". Come on, give me a break. I waited 4 days for that reply. I'm gonna try installing the Vertex in another system and installing an os on it just to eliminate it as a problem. Anybody have any other suggestions? Is the mobo faulty? HELP!!!

What is the model number of your power supply?
What is the BIOS version number you are using?
What settings have you changed in the BIOS?
    Have you cleared the CMOS?

Power supply is a corsair 1000W. Bios version is F7. Yes I have tried clearing the cmos. I have disabled the floppy in the bios and yes the drive has been formatted to NTFS. I installed the vertex in another system and installed vista with no problems on the first attempt. I am now gonna try to format the drive and install Win7 just to assure myself that the drive is fine. I'm really starting to lean towards the board being faulty due to the fact that I can't access safe-mode or the express recovery options from the boot up menu.

Hi Scar69 Well first of all lets get some history on your parts.
What were you running before and what problems did you have with the previous system. Are you sure all your parts are garanteed to be good for your new MOBO?? Cuz if your parts are bad they can make it seem that your MOBO is bad. Begin by listing all your parts that you had in your previous system and what caused you to stop using it-OR is this a new build with all new parts??
    Give us a clue please.

Mobo, cpu, ram, vertex ssd drive and psu are all brand new. The only old components are the 4870 and the omega striker sound card. I have ran diagnostics on the memory and found no errors. I now have the vertex ssd installed in my old backup system and had no problems installing vista or the pile of updates.

After clearing the CMOS, you should always load "optimized defaults" in the BIOS.
You need to set up the Mushkin Blackline 996657 in the BIOS too.
    Timing 7-7-7-20
    Voltage 1.85V - 1.95V in DDR3 Voltage Control

Express Recovery and Express Recovery 2 are different utilities. The Express Recovery 2 Utility is on the Disk that is included with the motherboard accessories.

Alright...here is a list of things I just tried

Shut off the psu and drained mobo power by holding down power and reset buttons.
    Cleared CMOS
Powered on and loaded optimized defaults
    Set memory timings to 7-7-7-20 1T, 1.85V
Disabled drive "A" and set the time and date
    Disabled cool & quiet
    Disabled full screen logo
    Disabled onboard audio
Inserted Windows 7 installation disk and chose custom from menu. Formatted a new partition and began installation.

Installation made it to 28% and has been froze and unresponsive for about 20 minutes. This is the same thing that happened before. The freezing is completely random.

CPU NB VID Control -Try setting the voltage to 1.12V to 1.18V

You might also try using 1 stick of RAM or going to 1.9v DDR3 voltage control.
