    Default Pb with GA-EP45-DS3L + Q6600 + 4Go DDR2

    Hi,

    Here is my PC configuration:

    CM Gigabyte EP45-DS3L Bios F7 (23/07/2008)
    2x1GO DDR2 Kingston 1066 (8500) KHX8500D2K22G in dual Channel (slot 1 and 3)
    Windows XP SP3

    All is OK.

    I just bought 2x1Go Corsaire (CM2X1024-8500C5D) in order to raise to 4 Go.
    Once installed, my PC don't boot !!

    I test the Corsaire kit alone and the boot is OK

    I change the 2 kits on the 2 slots or orange and yellow
    In this case, nothing on the screen.
    In the orther case, the PC reboot in loop

    I update my bios to F10 but nothing.

    Under EasyTuner 6, the RAM is recognised like this
    - KINGSTON: DDR2 PC 6400, 400 Mhz (FSB:DRAM=2:3), 5,5,5,18, 1.8V
    - CORSAIRE: DDR2 PC 6400, 533 Mhz (FSB:DRAM=1:2), 5,5,5,15, 2.1V

    Here are my last tests in the BIOS

    - CPU Section (unchanged)

    CPU Clock ration: 9X
    CPU Freq: 2.40 Ghz (266 x 9)

    CPU Host Clock Control: Disabled
    CPU Host Freq: 266
    PCI Express: Auto
    C.I.A.2: Disabled

    - RAM Section (changed)

    ------------ DRAM Performance Control ------------
    Performance Enhance: Turbo -> standard
    Extreme Memory Profile (XMP): Auto -> Disabled (with Corsaire module)
    MCH Frequency latch: Auto -> 266
    System Memory Multiplier (SPD):Auto -> 3.00A
    Memory Frequency: 800 -> 800 (1066 -> 800 with Corsaire module)
    DRAM Timing Selectable (SPD): Auto -> Manual
    CAS -> 5
    tRCD -> 5
    tRS -> 5
    tRAS -> 18
    DRAM Voltage: 2.000 V -> 1.800 V

    ------------ Mother Board Voltage Controll ------------
    MCH Core: 1.100 V -> 1.200 V

    Are these settings are good ?

    Here are severals configurations i test with K=Kingston, C=Corsaire
    In the better case, i get 3 Go in 2+1

    Slot
    1 K K - C C K K C C C C C - - K K -
    2 K K K - - K - K K - C C C K - C C
    3 C - - C - C K C C C - K - C C - K
    4 - C K - C C - K - K K - C C C C C
    OK OK OK OK OK KO KO KO KO KO KO KO KO KO KO KO KO

    3Go 3Go 2Go 2Go 2Go

    Slot/module or bios parameters ?
    Any idea ?

    Thanks

    Well you should not be mixing memory, this is part of the issue. These sets have different specs and may not ever work together.

    For now, I can try to help you get them working though. You do need to make several changes in the BIOS to use 4x1GB.

    Please give me your current settings you are trying that fail and I will advise back, template to do so is in a link in my signature.

    Please do add your full specs as well, thanks!

    So you are not only using mixed modules, but you are using 3 sticks and breaking dual channel? Why? This may make things even harder...

    Hi,

    The reason why i do this is because in dual channel, only one pair of sticks works at a time and only with some slots, but never both of them.
    Dual channel works with 2 Go max.
    To get more, i have to mixe sticks and break dual channel.

    Here are the working configurations i test:

    - 2 Go
    Kingston in slot 2 and 4
    Corsair in slot 1 and 3
    Corsair in slot 1 and 4
    => Others configurations doesn't work

    - 3 Go (mixed mode)
    Kingston in slot 1 and 2 + Corsair in slot 3
    Kingston in slot 1 and 2 + Corsair in slot 4
    => Others configurations doesn't work

    - 4 Go (Dual or mixed mode) never works

    I'll try your suggestion.

    Well with the right voltages and settings they may all work, but then again they may not because you are mixing memory. You should not mix memory

    The above settings will likely work for all 4GB, as this is pretty close to what I would suggest for that as well. So go ahead and try that too, put the same sticks/brand in each channel, that is one brand in 1+3 and the other brand in 2+4

    Hi,

    Here are the results with your suggestion:

    - 2 Go
    Kingston work in 1+3 or 2+4
    Corsair work in in 1+3 or 2+4

    - 4 Go never works in dual channel:
    Kingston in 1+3 and Corsair in 2+4 => KO
    Corsair in 1+3 and Kingston in 2+4 => KO

    So, your suggestion fix the problem in 2 Go dual channel but not in 4 Go ...

    By the way, here are the Standard Timing Control i put as suggested:

    CAS Latency Time........................5
    tRCD ......................................... 5
    tRP'........................................... 5
    tRAS.......................................... 18

    I thought that tRas should set to 15 instead of 18 for 1066 RAM ?
    So, any idea or other parameters to try ?

    Many thanks for your help
    Regards

    15-18 doesn't matter much, just depends on the ram really, 20 would even be fine to try.

    I think you just cannot mix these modules is the problem. Can you accept that? If so you will save yourself much headaches and time trying.

    Just sell either of one of the kits and buy a new kit to match the one you keep and you will be good to go

    Did you try ever MCH 1.0-1.1? Just wondering as some boards need less than stock to run stable, not very often though, but it is something else to test.

    I do advise you do not mix this memory though, it is not working very well together at all! When mixing memory most of the time they will at least boot and let you spend days trying to get stable before you decide they wont work together, these are just not even booting so you can clearly see they are not going to work together.

    Can you post MemSet SPD(click spd) window for one stick of each kit?
    Also confirm that SPD is the same for both sticks of each kit.

    Hi,

    Lsdmeasap, i think you're right. But i would like to make another tests.
    1) Change, as you suggest, MCH settings
    2) set BIOS RAM settings in 800 Mhz (PC2 6400) instead of 1066 (PC2 8500)
    If it doesn't works, i will buy a new kit to match the one i keep or by a 2x2Go dual channel kit.

    Chike, here are Memset SPD screens from sticks:

    I confirm that SPD is the same for both sticks of each kit.

    Thanks
    Regards
