Arrow Thinking about returning my Gigabyte UD5

This is the best Gigabyte forum I've seen on the web, so hopefully you guys can help me out.

First off, this is my set up:

    Intel Core i7 920 SLBEJ D0 @ 4.0ghz 1.28v (200x20)
    Prolimatech Megahalems w/ Scythe Kaze-Jyuni
GIGABYTE GA-EX58-UD5 Extreme Mode F7 bios
    6GB G.Skill Trident DDR3 @ 1600 6-7-6-20 1T
    EVGA Geforce GTX 285 @ 756/1620/1455
EVGA Geforce GTS 250 for dedicated PhysX @ 800/1900/1200
    Creative X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Champion
    Sennheiser HD-555
    Western Digital Caviar Black 640GB x 3 RAID 0
Sony Optiarc 24x DVD Burner with NEC chipset
Kingwin Mach 1 1000W SLI Active PFC Modular Power Supply
Samsung 305t Plus 30 inch LCD monitor
    Coolermaster HAF 932
    Microsoft Sidewinder w/Razer Exact Mat
    Microsoft X6 keyboard
    Windows 7 Professional x64
    CyberPower 1500VA/900W UPS back up

The board runs great at 200 bclk, but if I go even one over, it always freezes and crashes after a few seconds of prime. I've heard this is a common problem with Gigabyte boards, but what I want to know is, is there a work around or solution, or is Gigabyte even aware this problem exists and might make a new BIOS to help increase bclk?

I know I've seen several guys people with this exact same motherboard running at over 200 bclk, but there are also quite a few people like me that cannot run over 200 with any sort of stability.

    Any help would be appreciated.

No, I'm using the F7 bios. I never flashed to the F9 bios because I didn't think it would help, and most things I've heard about the F9 bios seem to be negative, ie needing more voltage to reach the same clock speeds as the F7.

You think I should try it out?

yes flash to the latest bios, ive been using f9a bios 24/7 i can clock to 4.2ghz no problems, beta bios's are 100% safe and stable they contain all the latest memory compatability fixes and other fixes too flash using q-flash tho dont use @bios another member bricked his board a few days ago flashing this way...read on how to flash with q-flash and youll be ok.f7 is an old bios that usually ships with the board thers been alot of fixes since then

OK man, I just tried the F9e bios and it didn't work :(

All is not lost however. It fixed my memory incompatability issues so I'm able to run even more aggressive timings now, and my computer also boots faster than it did with the F7 bios, and Windows even feels snappier too.

I don't know what I'm going to do about the bclk issue though.

I know it's not my processor, because I run at 4.2ghz if I turn turbo on, so it has to be the board.

    I might swap it for a UD7

But thanks for the help man... much appreciated

did you try fI bios? and have you tried with more cpu voltage? or try an odd cpu multi rather than an even..some cpu's like one or the other it depends

FI bios? I never even knew there was a FI bios! Where can I download it?

As for CPU voltage, I tried all the way up to 1.38v and it still didn't work.

Haven't tried an odd multiplier yet though.

Hey man, I think we have a winner here with the Fi bios

I don't have time to test it properly as I have to go somewhere right now, but I ran prime for about two minutes and it didn't lock up on me, where before I would get lockups in about 10 seconds or so..

This was at 205x19, which is below my regular clockspeed.

When I come back home tomorrow morning, I'll do a proper test and update you.

    Thanks for the help bro!
