Question Re: X58A-UD7 what's the best ram

    Hi all,

Maybe missing something but the UD7 manual says it accepts 2200/1333/1066/800 ram

Im probably a little dumb but doesnt this mean if you use 1600 ram your not going to get fulluse of it?

If someone can indulge an old digger, please explain.

Is 1600 Trident triple rem kit fully useable given the manual statement/spec?

    Thanks in advance

You can use 1600 ram. If you are running stock bclk then use the 12 memory multiplier, 133x12=1600. If you overclock to 200 bclk, use the 8 memory multi, 200x8=1600. Or just use the ram's XMP profile it will set everything for you. I am not running the Trident but have the Ripjaws 1600 kit in my sig and they work fine.

    ^^ Right

You can use an speed memory, even above 2200+ if you want. All that list means is "Official" Support

Confirmed. The DDR rates of 800, and 1066 are officially supported by Intel in the CPU specs (upped officially to 1333 for the P55 based i5/i7). 1333 is supported by Gigabyte a sit's becoming the most popular official DDR3 spec (JEDEC approved) and 2200+ is quoted to give you an idea of how much you can max the speed out by before having to overclock the BCLK.

    Thanks a million guys

I love it when you learn something new

Maybe this is a good point for gigabyte to include in their manuals coz poorly informed guys like me might be put off by seeing those strange set of 4 numbers for ram (eg thinking it very restrictive).

I will get the trident 2000 9-9-9-25 triple kit I guess its $215 at MSY (Australia)
I was gonna get the ocz gold 1600 8-8-8-24
From what Ive read this forum the faster frequency will more than make up for the lower spec readings.

This is a great forum. now I just have to work out whether the megahalems is worth the money or go with the TRUE little brother COGAG Spirit CPU cooler. Its way cheaper and a few reviews say its good, but read one saying it 10 degrees worse than True copper. Another comment said true copper very premium product must cost a lot more as coper and gold so can anyone quickly confirm or give opinion on the best way to go.

    Once again

    Thanks in advance

Get a normal TRUE, a Prolimatech Megahalems or a Noctua tower cooler IMO. A TRUE copper is so heavy that you'd be foolish to install it in a tower style case. The forces could very well rip the CPU section from the board. The thing is 2Kg! It barely cools any better than a regular TRUE either unless you strap an extreme air flow fan to it, something like a 150CFM 60dB Delta, enough to deafen you and fly your rig trans-Atlantic(and BTW, the TRUE Copper does not contain any gold).

I have the Megahalems and although it is expensive, it is worth it to me. If you plan to OC to 4 Ghz or higher you need a good cooler and this is probably the best.

    Thanks for the advice all

The alt was Cogage True Spirit though/not the TRUE Copper. Doesnt really matter but Id read the CTS was better than the MegaH but not nearly as good as the TRUE copper. I think Im gonna go with the tried true Mega H even if it costs twice as much for peace of mind.

sorry if I diressed from the ram topic too (if I caused anyone undue distress)
