    Hey SB420 - sorry mate didn't answer you before, yes I've enabled legacy keyb and mouse support. Luckily enough this is not my boot drive - I used the sata2 corsair p128 for that, with the controller set to ahci (win7 install is dead slow if left on ide). Cheers!

    Yeah - it usually happens when i've changed nothing!

    I get the point about the ram at 2000mhz being oc'd, however my perhaps mistaken understanding is that these modules run stock at 2000mhz - i have these -

    Thanks, I suggest you try at getting this stable for a while, memory at 1716 based on your Bclk (If you want higher you will need to use a different Bclk)

    Yes, stock speed is 2000Mhz, but this is very stressful on your IMC and you will need to do much more tweaking and tuning then you are doing. It is not ideal to run 2000Mhz memory on X58 for 24/7 use, because you will need to use 1.45-1.6 QPI/Vtt and a very high uncore freq.

    You can do it, but not for daily use is all. Best to run them under 2000Mhz with tigher timings, this allows much less voltages to be used. If you want 2000Mhz ram settings to try let me know, but I assure you to get that stable will require some tweaking time and a lot of voltage.

    Thanks Lsdmeasap - unfortunately with the above settings it would not boot at all, just on/off/on/off until i killed the power and cleared the bios.

    i'll try doing bit by bit over the next few days.

    For my sata3 drive, no luck with it when it's plugged in the sata3 port on the mobo. i've installed the marvell drivers (several times to be sure), and set the sata 6/7 controller to ide. native sata 0-3 is enabled.

    Works fine when plugged into any of the sata2 ports. This is a storage drive for me.

    Any thoughts?

    For your SATA3 drive, no need to install Marvell drivers unless you are using Marvell RAID. So this may be the problem since it is just storage anyway, uninstall the Marvell driver and try putting the drive there again.

    The above settings did not work eh? I'd need to see the exact settings you tried, since I posted ranges for a few things, but it could be anything? Are you sure you tried enough voltages, you may need to set your own Vcore and do so above stock?

    Do you have FD enable in the BIOS? If so that is why it is slow, not due to IDE.
