    The push fan didn't fit with my dominator GT's, the fan clips are what block slot 2 yeah?

    You could just use cable ties to attach the fans to the cooler, i didn't try it as my system is in parts but I've seen photos and it looks fine.

    p.s. Sorry Lsdmeasap I haven't had time to pull the system apart to take those pics yet, I'll post them tomorrow.

    Sorry for not getting the pics up lsdmeasap.

    I ended up sending the UD7 and the 5970 back for RMA, the 5970 was replaced but the UD7 was apparently found to be fault free.

    The problem is i'm still having stability issues, I've changed all of the settings you suggested and have had c1 loops, error messages saying boot failed due to overclocking and prime95 blend test usually fails after about 4 hours but sometimes after only 5 mins with rounding errors.
    I've tried jacking up the vcore to 1.35 and the QPI/VTT to just over 1.3 (don't really want to push it further) I'm going to run memtest on it for 24 hours over the weekend to see if the ram will fault.

    I've got a few questions:

    Why would i need to change any of the BIOS setting from default in the first place when there is a big "6 core ready" sticker on the UD7 box? is the gigabyte bios really that badly done? btw i'm now running f7p

    Why would the board be reporting error due to OC when the chip is running at it's default specs?

    I've tried setting the cpu multi 1 step higher and 1 step lower but for some reason when it posts it always adds +1 step to the multi...so if i set it to 24x it will post 25x, or if i set 26x it will post 27x...this does not look like speedstep/turbo boost...why would this be happening?

    Is running the RAM at it's rated 1866 not compatible with the chip/board?

    What are considered "safe" voltages for QPI/VTT and VCORE? i've read 1.4~1.45 for VCORE and 1.35 for QPI/VTT...but i've also read that these voltages may be considered on the edge of dangerous for 24/7

    Cany you explain the settings you have indicated to change and why those changes are required at default speeds?


    The temps on the CPU are 18c~20c idle and 45c~50c at full load under prime blend. Having this 980x and not being able to get it stable at default is rather disheartening...not being able to push it further just makes me sad :(

    I have found the Uncore multi (New rules) can be the trickiest thing with 980X and UD7, so this may be part of your issues.

    Disable Turbo in the BIOS, and of course update to the latest BIOS (I see you are). Yes you can run 1866Mhz memory speed, but you need to set many things yourself manually, XMP and or auto is not suggested.

    1.4ish for both is what I feel is "Safe" for most users, maybe a bit more vcore of course. If you are water cooling you can use more normally, and the QPI/Vtt limits is still up in the air same as it was for previous gen for a long time (When many used/still use 1.5-1.6 24/7)

    You are not running default speeds, you are trying to run 1866Mhz memory which means you need to change the uncore, memory multi, and several other voltages/settings to make this happen, so that is not default by any means.

    980X is a bit tricky for sure, took me a while to figure out a few things with it. Don't give up you can do it!!

    Uncore is the key I think, use 1.5-2.0 x memory multi. If you still need help give me your full settings and tell me what you want to try and run and I will advise back

    I was very much hoping to get this 980x to run at 4.3....not looking like it's going to be possible at this stage BUT if the system was stable would that just be cpu multi, vcore, qpi/vtt increases?

    Did you get 4.2 stable yet first?

    Since you want 4.3 try these for 4.2 with memory at 1600, this is what I am using right now (Ram settings aside)

    If you really want different settings for 4.3 or 4.x with 1866Mhz memory let me know and I will advise

    Hey thanks for that...wat i meant was i want to get it stable at stock (25x133) first before i went anywhere near an overclock of any kind...but hey, why not give it a try...cant be any worse than it allready is...

    Also did you see my q about why the multi seems to add +1 step to any setting in post eg: set 25x in bios it will post with 26x????

    Ya, if you have a good cooler go ahead and try for your overclock, no need to wait around :)

    Yes, I replied about that I thought, maybe not?

    Turbo adds multi's, sometimes more than one, it's normal, disable turbo if you want it to be only 25

    I've got a megashadow...so it's fairly good...sold all of my water cooling gear years ago :(

    So you just push the bclk for an oc and don't touch the multi? when would the benefit of having an unlocked multi on this chip come into play?

    Anytime, Bclk does not affect performance like FSB did, so Multi overclocking is great to use when you have it.

    It can be useful in many different ways, one previously mentioned, extreme overclocking, when you need your memory to hit a certain freq using a certain multi, ect.

    Odd CPU multi's work best, so keep that in mind. I just use 25/27 most often, not sure why, have been since using 965.
