Yes latest BIOS is always best to use.

To answer you on 4GB vs 8GB, yes 4GB would be easier to use and allow a higher overal overclock. Either way I can help you get going with 8GB if you want to attempt that for now, if so please get a template from my signature and give me your current full settings and I will advise back.

    Thank you SO much.

Yes, if I can get 8GB of RAM working at a fast clock, I'd be delighted... and next build I'll just stick with 4 ;)

Well, when I left this last night, I was experimenting with a lower host frequency (7x460 = 3.22) and trying to put the memory at a 2.40B strap (bringing it to 1104) because I found one fella who used this Kingston RAM around 1100
    Kingston HyperX T1 Series DDR2-8500 2 x 2GB Review Page 3 - Testing: (Setup, Cpu-Z, Task Manager,Overclocking) - Overclockers Club (scroll down) ... of course he's only using 4 gigs.

But I was just taking Kick's voltages (http://forums.tweaktown.com/f69/help...77/#post332803) and decreasing them a little so I didn't overvolt anything (no idea what I'm doing) but I was back to getting Kernel Panics.

Anyway, the only thing I've had working and stable are the settings in my very first post so I was going to go back to trying those and try bumping them up maybe? Now that I've seen this thing run for a little while at 3.4, anything in the 3.2-3.3 range would be amazing.... but anything better than 2.97 I'd be grateful for too!

So I'm going back to the 2.97 clock for now and going to mess around from there... the settings template is my first post of this thread but I am happy to repost anything I tweak further... that first post was based off of someone else you helped in another thread.

    Thanks again!

4gb at higher speed and (4x2gb) puts more load at the mch. So its a balance of how much it can handle/timings/voltage/cooling and what is physically possible.

Could we see the template/memory timings/voltages that you used for "I tried Kick's settings with a lower host frequency (3.33) and Prime95 lasted an hour before failing!" You would need at around 1.38v mch with a high fsb and high memory 1000 and better cooling. I imagine with the stock mch cooler w/ cover w/ no fan, temps would be around 43-49 C after an hour <-- a bit on the warm side.

p45 ud3p 1.6 fb stable but fd fails or is it just my ocz incompatibility?!? This guy has problems uniquely similar to mine. I'm starting to think this ocz brand is just not that great. JR P45 driving me crazy!

Yes, please give us the settings you are trying and we can then advise back what to try adjusting

I had a stable system (running 5 hours of Prime95 with no errors) using information found in these forums (http://forums.tweaktown.com/f69/help...-please-28995/) but I had to ratchet down some choices (see below for current settings).... the cores all run at 58-60Ί under 100% load per core so, at least based on heat, it seems like this puppy can push harder! I've got Arctic Silver thermal compound and an Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Fan on the processor.

Ive been running my q8400 at 3.92Ghz for 24 hrs or so with prime and OCCT.
I just dialed in my saved bios for q8200 at 3.43Ghz,but everything seems a lot cooler ,still it is wintertime.

Default Re: Another Q8200, EP45-UD3P Overclock in need of Expert Eyes

@lsdmeasap THANK YOU... I was running stable at 2.97 but it looks like my settings weren't optimal for it based on what you sent.

I tried the high ends of your settings with a 7x450 (3.15) with 2.40B (memory at 1080) overclock but it failed Prime95 immediately.

So I'm trying again with 2.00D for the memory. Nope. Fail.

    Hmmmm.

Any idea which category would need to be pumped up in order to get a better cpu result? I set the Driver Profiles to 1066 too.

@Kick, I found some of your old settings but not sure if they're your 3.43 settings... whatever I used let me boot the computer (no kernel panics) but I couldn't get very far in Prime95... but it's encouraging to know that faster speeds are possible... it just seems weird that I have such extreme/fast failures... you would think that I could squeeze more out of this.

(btw OS memory says it's running at 667 even though I have set the bios to the 1066 profile)

Interesting...the high-end values don't work for regular 7x425 (2.97)... fasscinating... OK... I'm going to make some more conservative moves and see what happens.... but apparently I'm now controlling too much!

The problem must lie in the memory timings, no? That's where the bulk of the configuring is happening.... it's all memory timings and then voltages... so I've got too much power, if anything... so that leaves the memory... this memory looks like it's serious quality stuff, massive heat-spreaders, and you would think it could do anything below 1066 without a problem... but it struggles once it's running above 850... I mean, again, I really don't know what I'm doing or what's to blame but I can see that so much of the art of this must be in the memory timings.

    Well, thanks again! Onward!

giganate, set these, reboot and run prime95. use easytune6 to bump up your fsb as high as you can before it crashes. <--once it does thats your maximum then reboot and set your fsb 15-20 lower than your highest max working fsb. let us know your maximum fsb/cpu/memory before running a long prime95 test. These settings will allow to find your maximum performance. I took a look and these should work.
