Default Can PCI EX1 device be used in PCI EX 16 slot on X58A-UD7?

I have just received a GA-EX58A-UD7 board. I would like to install a Hauppauge TV tuner card (PCI EX1) on this board. The board comes with a separate chipset cooling tower that installs in one of the board's two PCI EX1 slots and the standard chipset heatsink (which remains in place even when using the optional chipset cooling tower) seems to block the other PCI EX1 slot.

So, I am wondering if my PCI EX1 TV card (with just a few gold contact pins) can be installed in any of the board's PCI EX16 slots not used for the video card.

    Can this be done?

Yes, definitely, just slot it right in there.
you can put any pci-express current card speed type and length into a 16x slot, be it 1x/4x/8x/16x
It will still work just run at 1x.
give it a go, it will do no harm and will work

    ^^+1.

Qwertylesh is 100% correct. You will notice the slot and the card are keyed in several places. This allows any size card to be inserted without sliding forward as it virtually sits in its own compartment in the bigger slot. I've used 1x, 4x and 8x PCIe cards in 16x length slots with zero issues. My parents HTPC build contains a digital TV card in the 16xPCIE slot (and on-board GPU), and it's perfect.

Let us know if it does not for some reason, that way others can be aware.

    Thanks
