I've got a lot of hardware in the way of the other two slots, I figured for 8x even if it does work, there'd be not much point in running the card in that slot... I have reset the cmos since, I've got a button on the rear panel which saves me mucking around with jumpers. I'll check out the guide in the morning. Thanks once again for all your help lsd!

The second slot will run at x16 as long as nothing is in the main slot, it's only x8 when both slots are in use.

Ya, try out the long way of clearing the CMOS, sometimes the quick button just will not get the job done

I hadn't thought of the updated GPU bios actually, but after some searching there only seems to be one version floating around across the web so, I'm assuming that's the version that's already on it... Still yet to try slot 2 (I had no idea slot 2 was capable of 16x) - As always, if anything eventuates you guys will be the first to know. :)

Before I rip apart the bottom half of my case, are you certain slot 2 becomes x16 in the absence of a card in slot 1? I can't find any evidence that it does...

Here's a snippet from the manual: "(Note 2) For optimum performance, if only one PCI Express graphics card is to be installed, be sure to
install it in the PCIEX16_1 slot; if you are installing two PCI Express graphics cards, it is
recommended that you install them in the PCIEX16_1 and PCIEX8_1 slots."

There has been a revelation, tried the card in a mate's XFX 790i with a HX-750 power supply, exactly the same problem! Worked on the first try but not on the second... Odd, I'll see what EVGA say.

Yes, it will work at x16 if nothing is in the first slot, or the third

Sounds like you may have a faulty card and may need to RMA it

Yeah absolutely, seems like it's very picky about *something* although I have no idea what this *something* is... Thanks once again for all your help lsd, I've learnt a heap along the way. :)

    Anytime!

Good luck with the RMA on this card, if that is what you end up having to do
