Default Ethernet just died on EP45-UD3P rev 1.6

    EP45-UD3P
8Gb Patriot Viper II DDR2 1066 RAM (4x2Gb). Surprisingly given other posts, this passed memtest86+ overnight with nothing but optimized default settings.
BIOS rev FD (latest as of 11/24)
    Q9550 processor
    Win7 x64

This was running well except for freezing once daily. NOt even a blue screen - just a complete freeze. I actually have two of these boards and they both do it, so I am really hoping this is a software bug that will eventually be fixed. They both also occasionally 0x7F (8,xx,xx,xx,xx) blue screen. Anyway, this isn't why I am posting...

Today it froze and upon reboot the ethernet driver wouldn't start. I uninstalled and reinstalled the driver but still the same. I tried the second port, but can't get that to work either. Again, ethernet was working fine for a month, then it suddenly stopped.

In the BIOS, if I run the port check, under "Integrated Peripherals" it will find the ethernet cable though.

I would say this must be a hardware failure, except for the BIOS check still finding the cable.

    Any ideas or suggestions?

Under device manager, does your ethernet adaptor show up under network devices?

Im pretty sure its not a hardware failure. Just load optimized defaults in the bios and it should be fixed.

Be sure you are using the latest BIOS for your board

Also I suggest you use the latest RealTek drivers, direct from them >>

If your bios has an option named "Quick Boot" in the advanced options turn that off. Since you say you haven't done anything I can't see this as being a ground problem but you might want to check your case anyways and make sure the Mobo is screwed down correctly (perhaps you need those red ring fiber washers too, though doubtful) aside from that I can't think of anything else to test.

    Thanks all.

I changed the BIOS to undo the quickboot and suddenly it loaded drivers and is now back to normal. I don't know if this is cause and effect or if it just decided it was time to start working again. I really didn't do anything else.

It loaded the Microsoft drivers, which I think I will stick with until I can sort out the source of the daily freezes.

Ya it is likely quickboot then, since this is new feature they are still working on getting it to work properly.

I do advise the RealTek drivers though, they would be much better than the MS ones

Hi , just wanted to say thanks to KayossZero , it looks like his fix has worked for me too :) I got this MB on Boxing Day and have been fighting this issue ever since, the latest bios FD has Quickboot enabled by default.
(as does the FDa beta bios) . Not sure I should tell the techs at the store though , this is the 2nd board I'm on , same issue ..... they RMA'd the 1st one .

Strange. On my 1.6, Quick Boot is disabled by default. When enabled, I'd randomly lose the firewire, checked in BIOS (pressing F9).
A warning to those who are missing stuff after enabling Quick Boot.
