Well you seem to be moving on quite nicely :

Good cooler you bought there btw,and since mine came with i7 fittings ver a year ago,im sure yours did too
keep the fan speed adjuster turned up to the max, that will allow the fan to go to 2000rpm instead of the standard 1800 rpm under heavy load and it doesnt seem any louder at idle.
and it will cool a quad cpu at 4.0Ghz at least.

I see youre on the mch v lower than standard ( which has been used before on the forum for 4 sticks of ram).

That doesnt work for me ,i run my mch more like the gskill response ( tho id never read that before).Still if it works for you thats all that matters.

If you want to overclock the cpu to 4.0ghz you cant run the ram at 800mhz.
445 cpu ref is as low as you can go with a 9x cpu multiplier for 4.0Ghz
that means the memory will have to run at 445x2 =890mhz as a minimum.

For information :In testing my gskill memory (800mhz) will hold 4-4-4-12 timings to 900mhz at 2.15V approx 920mhz at those timings needs over 2.2v in bios.

Holding the memory down at that speed, with those timings may give the best performance but If you are even considering a cpu speed higher than 4.0Ghz you may not be able to hold cas 4 timings.

It looks like you are down to a few considerations now.
1.you probably wont get a memory bandwidth higher than 9-10Gb/s (memory latency will vary a little)
2.try and get the cpu running as fast as you can with stability and holding 9-10gb/s memory bandwith.
3.Lsd has done some tests that seem to indicate D multiplier is better than B above 400mhz cpu ref.
4.In general you will want your memory running as fast as it will go ,but taking 1,2 and 3 above into account.

On the secondary memory timings static read or tRD provides the biggest difference for me (lower numbers are better). Its sometimes referred to pl or performance level.
I run with 9 which was harder to achieve than 10.
then there is the difference between turbo and standard memory settings.turbo improves the bandwidth by approx .5-.7Gb/s for me at high fsb.
You can adjust the settings manually,it does things like lower tRFC from mid 60's to early 50's etc.

I can see you going easily enough to 450 cpu ref
4.05Ghz cpu.. core voltage,id imagine you might need 1.32v cpu core in bios? maybe less.
The memory might be trickier ,using cas4 settings and 2:00D multiplier,I suspect you might need 2.1v+ in bios.
If you ease the timings out to 5-5-5-15 the mem voltage needed should drop a lot.
However if you go to 460+ cpu ref,920mhz + memory speed, your memory will start to perform better at cas 5 timings than it did at cas4 timings at 900mhz.

Nice on the xfire 5850's. The psu sounds plenty too but what are the amp ratings on each power supply bar .Are u overclocking the gx cards also.

If i had a 9650 to slot in id be going for the 4.5Ghz.."just cos its there" but even then id be expecting less of a noticable performance improvement than I got when changing from a 3.5ghz to a 4ghz cpu( l2 cache amount doesnt make that much diff in real terms)and even then the performance jump wasnt anything like bringing my 2.3ghz cpu to 3.5ghz.

You are already running faster than my old cpu was ."pedal to the stability metal" ,at stock and even below stock voltages.

Nice speeds and probably temps too,and you still have a lot of headroom. If you do get near 2000fsb you will probably need some higher voltages, whether its worth it to you or not, cant say.
