    Default P55 UD4 RAM (?) problem

Hello. I 'm new to this forum and I wasn't sure if I had to make a new thread or if I had to post in the Welcome to GIGABYTE Technical Support! sticky. Anyway. I 'm experiencing random freezes, my keyboard and mouse seem as if they don't get any power and (when in windows) I hear a constant noise from my speakers. Same thing in ubuntu expept for the noise. My specs are:

    CPU: i7 860 (not o/ced)
    RAM: Corsair Dominator CMD4GX3M2A1600C8 (link)
MB: Gigabyte P55 UD4 (F4 BIOS, think I saw F5 here in the forum but its not posted in gigabyte's site)
    GPU: MSI GTX275
    OSes: Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit & Ubuntu 9.10 32bit

Have tried leaving DRAM frequency to 1333, loading profile for 1600, loading optimized defaults etc. Any help would be nice. Thanks in advance and sorry for the bad english.

New thread is great, makes it easier for us to keep track of what you have discussed with others.

I do recommend you update to the latest BIOS (F5 Final) >>
    http://forums.tweaktown.com/f69/giga...st-bios-28441/

Please read this guide if you are unsure of how to safely flash, DO NOT USE @BIOS, and be sure you read this if you are using RAID >>
    http://forums.tweaktown.com/f69/bios...h-guide-27576/

I do not recommend that you use XMP, you should setup your memory manually. If after the update you are still having issues let us know and give us your full settings and we will advise back. Template is in my signature for you to give us your settings.

About this noise, can you describe it more or upload a recording of it for us?

As example for me if I use XMP I get blue screens and errors. Manual settings for memory works great.

I'm sorry for the long delay but I was away for holiday. Yesterday I flashed the F6b BIOS from the Gigabyte site and all was well until just moments ago when the computer crashed again in the same way. Now I got the BIOS settings but they are the Loaded Optimized Defaults. The memory has successfully passed an all-night-long MemTest from an Ubuntu Live CD, but I forgot to mention that in my original post. The BIOS Settings:

The * means I can't change the setting as it is.

Should I flash the F6 BIOS from http://forums.tweaktown.com/f69/giga...st-bios-28441/?

The memory is 1600MHz, 8-8-8-24 timings and 1.65v. I 'll try to record the noise...

Again, thanks in advance and sorry for the bad english.

looking at above settings i would set ram manually to 1600mhz and timings 8-8-8-24 1.66v in bios, set qpi voltage to 1.2000,set cpu voltage to normal setting.and set system performance enhance to standard

I tried the settings you proposed and it stuck while loading Windows. Then I tried just the 1600MHz, timings and DRAM voltage to 1.66v and it stuck again. Loaded Optimized Defaults and it booted. :(

Should I try the F6 BIOS?

are you still on the bios that came with the board?if so yes update to latest bios, update using qflash not @bios incase it crashes..first try same settings as before but with 1.25000 qpi voltage and see if it still crashes

No, I have updated from F3 to F4 to F5 to F6b and now I tried F6 but the problem got worse. Right after flash and with Loaded Optimized Defaults I got BSOD during boot. Said something about Physical Memory but it was too fast to read anything else. So I set manually the RAM frequency, timings and voltage. It got past the loading screen and then got stuck during desktop loading, 2 times. Then I retried Optimized Defaults and it booted successfully.

Should I try another MemTest? If so, can you recommend one?

did you try with 1.25000 qpi v? i use memtest 4 or memtest86,as for the noise in windows try disabling c1e in advanced cpu features and select balanced in win7 power saving profile

Nope. When I mess up with the Optimized Defaults for RAM settings it seems to get worse. Disabling C1E, indeed, stopped the annoying noise when crushing, but it still crushes..
