Thread: GA-EX58-UD5 random freezes

if you dont get any hardlockup or worker failures with prime95 after a few hours, its ok to assume that the cpu and memory are quite stable, and you can rule them out as being the reason for the hard lockups.

I think its best to keep to minimal specs for now until you work out that the system wont lockup anymore (ie, only 1 gfx, only 1 - 2 pieces of ram)

then after you get the system to no longer lockup, then to look at adding the remaining parts, then to re-stress the system and see if the hard lockups re-occur.

As qwertylesh said, if the prime95 passes it means that thres no problem in the cpu and the memory so anyone have an idea?

Have you gone over your event viewer, to see if your getting any GPU driver crash ie; "Nvlddmkm" entreis under Event log\System?

If you find the problem is something like that then it could very well pay off to downgrade to the late v9x.x's nvidia drivers.

This would be the case if your symptom only happens when gaming, which if so would probably be a pagepool allocation issue (very common in Left for Dead & nVidia graphics).
But if its happening at the desktop without gaming then the problem would very likely not be driver related at all.

Try each card out, be sure to set your pci express frequency setting to 100 in your bios, then try one card at a time, i suspect you could have a bad card.

I always check my event viewer and theres only a kernel power wish means nothing because im the one who shut the computer down.
I tried each card alone and with both card i have desktop freeze but no in game freeze.
If i plug the two cards i have both desktop and in game freeze.

sorry i didnt get a chance to reply earlier.
the lockups are quite baffling then, but good news that stressing doesnt cause it ;)

Really, if i was presented with this problem now, I would strip the system, mount it on my testbed, game a little, stress a bit, use it like it was built up into my case, and if i was lucky, i might find the problem to be something attatched to the base specs.

Since, if you only have CPU + HSF, GFX, RAM and PSU on the mobo, (kb and mouse and other essentials of course) and youve ruled out cpu ram and mobo (via stressing) it really only leaves your gfx, psu and perhiperials.

Now, the gpu GDDR can be tested by loading an old nvidia 80.xx/90.xx driver onto the system and running a program called Video memtest. (Video Memtest(mirror))

Provided that gets no errors (on the old drivers mentioned, it certainly will on the new ones) for both cards, then you'd be down to a keyboard, mouse, and psu... lol, which well isnt much and you could borrow the likes to rule each out too. :)

No matter what, you can troubleshoot the issue, and i'm just putting foward some advice on how i would go about doing such, but at the end of the day, its gonna cost you the time and inconvenience to work out whats giving you the trouble.

Keep at it, theres always a resolution to pc trouble, even if it does lead to replacing bad parts, or even finding the cause to a problem to be in the most unlikely final place, and what i mean by that is that ive came across some doozies in my time, like card readers that OC a system to 9ghz by itself, dvd-roms that affect the boot process are just two that really come to mind.

    hey guys new symptoms appeared.

When using only one card the screen goes black randomly like if they were no video signal like if the computer were in sleep then it restarts automaticly or sometimes it stays like that.

It has never did this thing in game btw(im using only one card).
