I'm hoping a new bios update will resolve your issues. Keep us posted.

well, received the board yesterday and setup everything, and the cpu works like a charm. evidently it seems it was just the GA motherboard probably wasn't cut out for it despite supporting am3 cpus. Although this doesn't say it probably doesnt support earlier renditions for the quad cores. I believe I remember seeing several who used the 955, etc but don't quote me on it. In the end I'm guessing it would be best to move on to a new board anyways seeing as how DDR2 is sorta of a dead end now, and DDR3 is at least better priced nowadays then what it was.

AOD Benchmarks increased from 2k to 11k - 3d marks nearly doubled from 7k to around 14k with a cpu score of around 5k (vs only 1.5k before)

I'll keep a lookout for GA updates for the old board and may give thought to sticking the cpu back in it to test and see if the updates work with it or not, but I don't believe I'll exactly stay on top of it. It was a pain removing the cpu and I ended up bending a few pins due to the heatsink wax (which I haven't done in years...) thankfully the card tricked pulled off and it sat into the socket just fine

to OP grab an MSI GD70 ;) things a beaut...

    hello
just a little update for anyone who is interested.
i bought the 965 and installed it,booted up with no problem at all.
win7 and cpuz both report the cpu running at 3.4 ghz.
didn't try overclocking yet,i'll let it burn in for a few days before i do that.
    thanks for the help guys.

Hmm just a guess here but it could be that you both have different revisions of the same board?

mmm never crossed my mind no XD tbh I wouldn't know how you would check for such a thing, or rather where. I remember getting the board around a month or so within its release XP

I would not be surprised if the board has been through revisions since the introduction of XP
