I have tried the Hard drive in all of the sata connections I think. I have had a look at the pins and cant really see any bent pins. Although on the back on the intel chip there seem to be some very small 'dents' in the centre of the pad/connections. is this normal?

Again, I have tried the reset CMOS to no avail.

When I power on the PSU, with the speakers on, I can hear some very strange noises?! I have never heard these before on any other computer.

dents you mean on the side the bottom of heatsink touches? and noises you mean like audio squeal? like modem noise? that could be due to psu /gpu brand, mine does it but not so much after driver updates some boards do it more than others...im still thinking its your psu

sorry, a better description would be very small pin holes. These are on the side of the chip that connects to the board, NOT the heatsink.

The noise is not quite like modem squeel but similar.

It is sounding like its the psu to me also!

Any recommendations on a quiet one to change it for? I have contacted the place where I got this one from and they say they will take it back and refund no problem, so at least not out of pocket!

i think the small dents are where the chip touches the mb pins, its normal,as for psu its best to buy a good brand like corsair,i only paid 45 for my 1050w psu,its an alphapower a cheap brand but it has all the connections and its been fine for 11months... look on www.novatech.com
maksure it has plenty 6 pin/gpu and one 8 pin connector for cpu power

take a look at this one and see what you think, but scout around on the net for the best deal as overclockers are abit more expensive than other places

well atleast you know its not psu,it could be anything now, either ram/mb/or cpu....will they let you change the ram for another brand?? as its small and easier than rma'ing the mb...if ram doesnt fix it then id request an rma for the motherboard as it might be faulty

I have requested an rma for the motherboard. Its going back tomorrow, although could be 10 days before I get it back :( I will let you know what they say!

After that I suppose the chip and ram are the final bits to try/change!

thanks for trying to help anyway. I really appreciate it!

    cheers

i read you requested the RMA but one last thing i would look at remove your heat sink and lift out your CPU look for a bent pin in the CPU socket
