Question No SATA drives in BIOS??

    Some curiosities:

Why are all drives in the Gigabyte BIOS under Standard CMOS Features listed as IDE channels? Other mobo vendors list IDE and SATA drives separately.

    Are SATA drives really IDE??

And why are the listed channel numbers not sequential (some numbers skipped)? In addition, the order does not correlate with the SATA port numbers on the mobo (SATA 0 may show up in the middle of the list, SATA 3 may be at the top as an IDE slave, etc.)?

First you did not specify which model board you have and which bios version. Yes IDE and SATA are similar on how the bios detects them with the exception of raid and achi. When set to raid or achi the bios that controlls them will list the drives and the drives will not show up under Standard CMOS Features.

If you have the bios setup as standard IDE make sure you boot drive is connected to the yellow intel ports 0-5 and your cd drive is connected to the last port sata_05. Does windows install screen see the hdd? Make sure the sata cable and the power cable are firmly in place i know the power cable on my are hard to push in fully.

    Thanks Acebmxer,

    Sorry, I have the GA-P55-UD4P.

Everythings working fine in the system - no problems. Just curious about the way the BIOS displays the drives.

My BIOS shows something very similar to the one shown here in the virtual BIOS page for the EP45-UD3P (Standard CMOS Features): GA-EP45-UD3P

Does yours show that type of listing?

If you have use these settings in Integrated peripherals.
    Code:
    SATA RAIDD/AHCI [Disabled]
    SATA Port0-3 Native Mode [Enabled]
    Onboard SATA/IDE Device [Enabled]
    Onboard SATA/IDE Ctrl Mode [IDE]
Your drives should show up in order as they are connected to your board under Standard CMOS Features.

If you have set like this for RAID or AHCI
    Code:
    SATA RAID/AHCI [RAID/AHCI]
    SATA Port0-3 Native Mode [Enabled]
    Onboard SATA/IDE Device [Enabled]
    Onboard SATA/IDE Ctrl Mode [RAID/AHCI]
Your drives will not show up under Standard CMOS features. Raid and AHCI have their own bios and detect the drives instead of the boards bios. THis is normal. I have AHCI enabled so my drives do not show up their.
