    Default GA EX58 UD5 - AHCI problem

Was having issues getting the intel (blue) sata ports to work with my Crucial 64gb SSD......works 100% ok in the jmicron ports (white).

Just updated the firmware on the SSD to the latest, thinking that may solve my problem.....but its just the same.

The SSD will work fine in IDE mode, but as soon as I switch it to AHCI it hangs before W7 can load, at the Serial ATA AHCI bios screen (as soon as it gets to the port that the drive is plugged into). AHCI driver is 1.20E which I think is the latest).

I have tried everything I can think of (different ports, unplugged everything so only SSD is connected etc etc)....still the same.

Will a bios update help? I am currently on F9M? I have updated the chipset drivers to the latest Intel also.

    Any ideas?

reflashed bios F9M and reset all settings, still the same.

Very weird. Why does it work ok in IDE mode, but wont detect the drive when I put it to AHCI?

Other drives are detected ok in the same blue ports.

AHCI doesnt get detected at right after power on afaik, it gets detected a bit later in the boot process. Anyways, you cannot install the OS in IDE mode and then switch to AHCI; you need to install the OS in the mode you are going to run it in. If you switch to another mode than the one you used when you installed your OS then you wont be able to boot

I'm installing Win7 Pro x64 on my brand new SSDSA2MH080G2R5 (firmware updated) so I hope I won't have problems... I've always had my EX58-UD5 set to AHCI mode.

You are missing the point I think.

W7 was installed on the Jmicron(white) ports, with AHCI enabled. (as the Intel (blue) ports would not detect the SSD.

I have since updated the firmware on the SSD and thought that may solve my problem, but it didn't.

Surely as AHCI was enabled on the Jmicron (white) ports, and it is running on there with AHCI enabled now, it should work on the Intel (blue) ports?

When the bios runs through the connected sata devices and the driver shows and lists them on the screen, it does not detect the SSD and keeps searching for it.

Everything works fine and I have the SSD on the blue ports (Intel ones, with AHCI on)...

Could it be a problem with the SSD then?

I could not even get bios to detect the drive to install W7, but worked fine on the white ports.

    Anyone have any more ideas?

There is a registry tweak you can do in windows 7 to turn on AHCI recognition mode in the OS< can't remember what exactly I did but it was easily findable with a google search, one simple string needs to be modified.

Its most likely a driver issues.. If you install Win 7 in achi mode on the jmicro controller you have to edit and the intel achi driver for win 7. Or try booting of the win 7 cd and see if it will aloud you to install it to that drive if you can then thats the problem.. You need to reinstall win 7 or follow the like to enable achi on the intel ports when Win7 was stalled with out it.
