    Default GA-EP45-UD3P(rev 1.0) Audio Problems

    Hello All,

    I'm new to the forum.
Just finished my first build consisting of:

    GA-EP45-UD3P (rev 1.0) mb
    E8400 processor
HIS HD 4670 Turbo graphics card
    Xigatech S-1283 cooler
    Corsair HX620 power supply
    8G Mushkin DDR2 PC6400 ram (996580)
    2-WD Caviar Blk. 640G Sata HDD's
    2- Optical Drives (combo)
1-Rosewill combo Floppy Drive & Flash card reader
    Antec P-182 case
    Win 7

Everything went great...which was a good thing!

Only problem is trying to configure the Audio I/O using my old Klipsch Promedia v.2-400 speakers so all 4 pods and the subwoofer work.

I've checked all wiring and for correct hookup...
    Installed latest Realtek HD drivers...
Read Section 5-2 (Configuring Audio Input and Output) in the appendix of the Gigabyte Owner's Manual). (The stuff about jack retasking on p.109 is confusing me.)

Any and all suggestions are welcome and appreciated!

    Will Kent

This is the setup for my 5.1 Z-5500 speaker setup:

Using the Realtek HD Audio Manager, Audio I/O tab, select 8CH Speaker.
Front channel plug uses upper right blue jack and select "Front Speaker Output".
Center/Subwoofer plug uses the upper left orange jack and select "Center/Subwoofer Speaker Output".
Rear channel plug uses the lower left gray jack and select "Rear Speaker Output".

This setup works like a champ with 5.1 sound sources.

    profJim,

Thanks for your help...I think I understand the jack retasking now. DUH!

The Klipsche v.2-400 is a little different than your 5.1 Z5500 setup. It is all analog with only 2 input plugs that go from the control satellite speaker to the PC. One for left channel, one for right.

There is also one cable from the control satellite to the subwoofer, and then L&R leads to the 4 satellite speakers from the subwoofer; one of these being the control satellite (which has a preamp for the subwoofer.) The 4 speakers are only designated L&R, and Front or Rear where they connect to the subwoofer. That's it.

I should be able to get it working the way it was designed now.

    Thanks again for your help...

I tried to download the owner's manual from the KLipsch website after I posted, but the closest I could find was the Promedia Ultra 5.1 manual.
At least you better understand the jack retasking now.
Let us know if you're able to get true positional 5.1 sound with your setup, it might help someone in the future who has a similar setup.

Glad to help out, good luck.

**edit** It sounds (pun intended) like your Klipsch setup isn't a true 5.1 setup, that is, it doesn't have a center front channel speaker as the 6th speaker in a 5.1 setup. Now I'm confused

    profJim,

By " true positional 5.1 sound", do you mean 2ch. stereo from all 4 sats. and the sub?

No, 5.1 means that you have 2 rear speakers, left and right, and you have 3 front speakers, left, center, and right. The sixth speaker (the .1) in a 5.1 system is the subwoofer.

You might need to select 4 channel speaker setup for your Klipsch speakers, where the electronics and speaker cross-overs will properly send the lowest frequencies to the subwoofer only.

You can check the speaker hookups in the AUDIO I/O panel by clicking on each speaker individually to play a sound or you can click the button "below" the chair in the frame that displays the speaker layout to play each speaker briefly, one at a time.

My backup system has 2 sets of mid/lower end 2.1 speaker systems connected. This setup is passable, but not great. You might have to test using 4, 6, or 8 channel to see what works best. If worse comes to worse, check out the Support area of the Klipsch website and check out their faq section and if they have a support forum, or email tech support, give it a try.

Once you get your setup dialed in, you'll have a great sounding setup, as the onboard audio has excellent sound. Many claim that adding a quality aftermarket sound card sounds even better with a high quality speaker setup.

**edit** Whoops, I didn't really answer your question. When your setup is properly configured, you should have proper left/right sound coming out of your front & rear speakers, and the subwoofer. I don't know if your speaker system offers "spacial" effects to simulate true surround sound. Many years ago I had a hi-fi home setup with a 4-channel Marrantz amplifier that offered several options for simulated surround sound.
