    Yeah that's what I thought,.

How's that Guide Chike gave you on Clock Skews? I haven't looked at it yet cos I haven't needed it.

    Will test the following.

    Memtest:
    All tests 5 passes
    Memtest #5 20 passes
    IBT max memory 3 runs
    Prime 95 Blend 8+ Hrs
    Prime small FFts ??? long
    Prime Large FFts ??? long

Then perhaps you'll be able to help me "dial in"

Check out Chike's clock skew link after you've read the wiki article.

Your test plan looks good, but you might want to change the test order to:
    1. Memtest86+ tests
    2. IBT with maximum available memory: 8 - 10 loops
    3. Prime Small FFT: 3 - 6+ hours
    4. Prime Large FFT: 3 - 6+ hours
    5. Prime 95 Blend: 8 - 12+ hours
    6. Heavy gaming: 72+ hours (non-stop)

How are your SYSTEM temps doing when running IBT?

    E6850 3.878GHz Memtest86+ update:
    test #7, 4 loops: 2 errors
    test #8, 2 loops: 7 errors

    Gonna do Prime95 blend test for 8+ hours using 3.375GHz (9 x 375) for a 12% o/c for my "low end" configuration.

    Thanks Jake...
    Incoming wet noodle!
"last edited" time stamps betray your efforts.
And I thought it was the innocent picture.

Temps are okay,.system at 39-41 under load
    Cpu core 61max on IBT
Cpu core 47-48 max on the game Battle field 2 ( which by the way plays nicely on max settings now!! )

My CPU is no longer bottle necked. Although Battlefield 2 is way more GPU dependent than other games it runs clean now.

Although there is clearly work to be done...

I am extremely thankful for your help ProfJiM. and to you Chike for your concise posts.
It is pleasing that I too like Jake can afford to wait until IvyBridge is released (relatively confident)

You'll be pleased to hear Professor that I am contemplating using a crossfire set up. Why have one extremely hot GPU if you can have 2!

I see how we go but that will give me the performance I more than likely need for Battlefield 3. (I'm looking at a 45 Euro investment here+cooler.

I have always been curious about water cooling especially the decibel ratings involved. Running a Pc that will be as loud as my vacum cleaner isn't ideal.

    Back to testing then......

Thumbs up Re: Ga Ep45 UD3P rev 1.0 Bios assistance

    Glad to help out.
You haven't crossed the finish line yet, but you're getting close.

Hmm, lets see....a new computer case, and maybe a more powerful power supply, oh and a triple monitor setup and a UPS unit to protect everything.

The clock signal synchronise the data between the north-bridge and the CPU. The signal must arive at the same time to both sides or one side may think data is valid while it's still not.
The clock skews shoft the arrivel of the signal, helping synchronising them if they do not arrive at the same time.

I was actually thinking about doing the same. The current NVidia cards have been out for awhile now, and we're due for a new batch next year. I don't want to buy one now when I can get the next at the same price point in a few months. So, I'm going to keep checking eBay and see if I can snag another of my current card for an SLI setup. I've been told by my brother that you need the same exact card model and revision, but I haven't confirmed this.

    Whoa, slow down a bit.
EP45-UD3P doesn't support SLI. You might be able to find an SLI hack for your current motherboard.
Ivy/Sandy bridge do, but mobo's with the Nvidia NF200 SLI chip can't/won't PCI-E 3.0 maximum bandwidth (thinking of the future.
Look at http://forums.tweaktown.com/gigabyte...3-support.html and http://forums.tweaktown.com/gigabyte...hy-not-b3.html for the possible mess in the near future.

You're supposed to be able to SLI cards from the same fanily, but I'm not sure how SLI performance scaling does if you buy a lower end GTX 560 and pair it with the higher end GTX 560 Ti. Same applies with the GTX 460 family.
Check out Search Results - GeForce_US for more information.

Sorry to have to rain on your parade.

It looks like Deafty's CFx with two 4890's will heat his whole house this winter ;)

    You're right. Oh well.

I researched the other issue this afternoon - looks like, in general, if the two cards are considered compatible, but one is better, it will use only the capability of the lesser one for both cards.

I have two MSI N460GTX Hawk cards for SLI.
The newer card is the Hawk Talon Attack which comes with slightly higher gpu and memory settings. Using AfterBurner's on screen display while running benchmarks, the details for each card are slightly different at stock settings and my benchmark scores compare with reviews from sites using much better hardware (i.e. cpu/mobo/memory) than I have on my 2007 hardware setup. These two cards have virtually identical hardware (~ 90 - 95%). I've overclocked the SLI setup from 780/811MHz up to 925 - 945MHz for most of my benchmark tests. Check out my results in the Hawk link in my signature. You should be able to read through the complete thread while you're running a 6 hour Prime95 test.

Overclocking graphics cards is MUCH EASIER than what you guys are going through.

AfterBurner lets you overclock each card independently (for some/many?/most? brands/models), but the safest bet is probably to have two fairly similar cards.
