^^Yes, manually set CPU PLL, never leave it on AUTO.
All reference volt settings should use AUTO for now. DRAM Termination should also use the AUTO setting.
Have you set C1E and EIST to DISABLED?

    Hello Professor and Chike.

Sorry About the green,.will use another colour next time ,.or should I edit?
On that subject I also apologize for by bad format layout,.I am having a few learning curve issues with the quoting and other options available in posting. Sorry.

I have followed your instructions to the letter as I am still very new to all of this. Unfortunately I have not been able to spend any of the last 18 months studying this. But I feel confident in what I have been learning and will undoubtably continue to ask dumb questions, for this I apologize.

    Yes,. I have,.

I will Manually set CPU PLL to 1.500

"Will probably need CPU Vcore to be 2 - 4 clicks higher than the 1.27500 setting. Each click is 0.00625 volts higher."
It is currently set to 1.25000
I will change this to 1.2875 2 clicks higher than 1.27500

CPU Reference and CPU reference2 are set to auto.

Do I run the same tests again?

    Memtest
    IBT
    Prime 95

    And one dumb question,.
What is the difference betweenPEG and PEG2?

Thanks. I really do appreciate all the support.

    So many questions
Peg is the upper pci-e video card slot and Peg2 is the lower pci-e slot.
With a single pci-e card, the Peg slot is usually used.

At this point, my preference is to run only one full Memtest86+ loop, followed by running 10 loops using the Memtest86+ #5 test.
To run a single test #5 loop, start Memtest86+ and press the following keys: C 1 3 5 [ENTER] 0
You can run the #5 test immediately after the regular full loop test by pressing the above key sequence.
Pressing C 7 at any time immediately starts the regular 8 test loop.

In windows, I run an abbreviated 3 - 5 loop IBT or LinX test and note the GFlops scores.
If you want, you can also run a cpu or memory benchmark test to see how you're system is improving.
If IBT or LinX has an error, your system is not stable and Prime95 shouldn't be run.
Prime95, OCCT, or Orthos are much better at finding out if your system is stable, but take much longer to run.
If these tests have no errors and you're into gaming, I would then run the most demanding game you have for several hours.

Each time you make bios changes for overclocking, you need to repeat the stress tests.
There's no sense cutting corners with stress testing and trying to use higher overclocks.

There are no dumb questions, but dumb answers can be deadly

    Ok I'm back.

    Ran:
    Memtestx86 1 full loop all tests.+ 10 loops on test #5 passed
IBT at max ram for 5 loops followed by 3 loops the next day see below.

    IntelBurnTest v2.52
    Created by AgentGOD
    ----------------------------

    Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E8400 @ 3.00GHz
    Clock Speed: 3,65 GHz
    Active Physical Cores: 2
    Total System Memory: 4094 MB

    Stress Level: Maximum (3107 MB)
    Testing started on 19.09.2011 14:06:11
    Time (s) Speed (GFlops) Result
    [14:09:54] 202.876 24.8261 2.843175e-002

    Testing ended on 19.09.2011 14:17:14
    Test Result: Success.

Ran Prime 95 for 3+1/2 hours. passed.
Played Bad Company 2 for 4 hours no problems.

Max core temp came in at 57 degrees whilst running IBT.

    What is the next step?

Would like to go higher,.but temps will now start to be an issue I presume.
What is the recomended max temp for the e8400. (If that makes any sense)
I am looking into improving my fan setup for the skythe mugen2 cooler.

It is designed to suck cool air in. Currently my fan is located next to my Ram modules. which is little silly as I am obviously sucking warm air off my ram and blowing it into the cpu heatsink.

I simply need to modify this setup which should lower my temps a little more.

Anyways what do you think?,.what can we do?
    Do you have anymore time??

    Thanks.

57o (C) is excellent for IBT. Your Mugen 2 cpu cooler is doing an excellent job.
If you want better system cooling, you'll need to buy a newer case that allows more case fans to be used. Cooler Master has many excellent cases that provide excellent cooling. Their RC-692-KKN2 CM690 II Advanced case is an updated version of my case and it should be reasonably quiet if you use some 140mm fans instead of higher speed 120mm fans. I wouldn't rush into buying a new computer case, as you can probably get away with temperatures that are somewhat higher than the optimal temperatures that a newer case will provide. With a newer computer case, you should be able to overclock to 4.00 - 4.25GHz or higher with reasonable temperatures.

You can probably overclock your e8400 up to about 3.90GHz without having to modify MCH Ref or CPU Ref bios settings. Please post your current 3.65GHz bios settings. This information will provide useful information for others and let's us provide more precise bios recommendations. I prefer to see a detailed screen-shot (as mentioned previously) to confirm that your posted bios settings are correct.

    9 x 425 = 3.825GHz and 9 x 450 = 4.05GHz should be doable with some minor voltage and memory changes.

    Sounds good,.

Very nice case indeed. Prefer to update my GPU than my case though,. we'll see how things go.

Please specify,. how can I take a screen shot of my bios?.or..??

Will post my bios settings with CPU-Z screenshots along with Easy tune6 "voltage tab" and possibly my test results.

Then will proceed with further Overclock when I hear I am running as recomended.

    Thanks.

PS: I am interested in adding more ram. But mine is no longer sold.
I have found identical but lower in size 2x1gb modules on ebay. Would this be ok or should i run 4 identical sticks the same size (Gb).

Thumbs up Re: Ga Ep45 UD3P rev 1.0 Bios assistance

Your temperatures should be fine up to 4.0GHz and possibly somewhat higher.

In post #2, I linked to http://forums.tweaktown.com/gigabyte...tml#post295784 (post #5), where step #4 suggests posting a screeenshot that includes:
Memset using the SPD and ">>" tabs
cpu-z CPU and Mainboard screens (several instances can be run at the same time)
EasyTune6 --> TUNER tab --> ADVANCE tab --> VOLTAGE tab (only the Voltage tab is needed)
CoreTemp screen [for your cpu's VID (Voltage ID)]
Links for these programs are in the http://forums.tweaktown.com/gigabyte...ity-tools.html thread.

Taking and posting pictures of the bios settings in the M.I.T. section is too much work for virtually no benefit. Posting your bios settings along with the screen-shot lets us quickly and easily confirm some of the most important settings and this helps save time, especially if we find some inconsistencies.

Adding "identical" 2 x 1GB ram might cause some problems because the ram might be using different memory chips. A better solution would be to sell your current ram and buy two 2 x 2GB identical memory kits. I did this several months ago when I couldn't buy a new set of Mushkin PC2-8500 ram for my system. Newegg had HyperX memory 2 x 2GB kits at an excellent price and the mail in rebate brought the total 8GB price down to $84 after MIR. Before I bought these kits, my P35 system was stable with 4GB of Mushkin ram and 2 x 1GB of the older Crucial Ballistix PC2-6400 (2.2 volt) ram. I had to compromise on the memory voltage and had to lower my memory speed somewhat. You will need to carefully measure the available clearance to see if using the first memory slot will cause problems with your Mugen 2 cpu cooler. Check out post #81 in MSI N460GTX Hawk (1GB) Overclocking Results where I have my Xigmatek Balder cpu cooler mounted horizontally to exhaust heated air out the top of my case. The cpu cooling fins are almost touching the first 61mm tall HyperX T1 memory module. Note that the heat from my graphics card is now feeding the cpu cooling fan, but I'm using 7 case fans plus the additional 92mm cooling fan for the graphics card.

Be sure to save your current stable bios settings as a saved bios profile before you make any additional changes by using F11 in the main bios screen.. See pages 37 and 38 in your motherboard user manual (v1.0) for more information.

You should be able to overclock to 3.825GHz using:
    Code:
    CPU Clock Ratio ---------------- : [9]
CPU Host Frequency (Mhz) ------- : [425] (memory speed will now be 850MHz)

    Static tRead Value ------------- : [8] (for memory channels A and B)

CPU Vcore might need to be one or two clicks higher than your current setting.
    CPU PLL ------------- 1.500V* -- : [1.500] <-- up to 1.57 might be needed
    MCH Core ------------- 1.100V -- : [1.20] <-- 1.22 - 1.26 or slightly higher might be needed
    Happy testing.

Glad to hear that your system is stable.
Check out the screen-shot in ED45-UD3p with 8400 Dual Core overclock help! :), post 54 which shows the needed ET6 window that we need to confirm some of the important bios settings.

Right now we're behind Jake in the other E8400 thread, but I think that it's because he has been overclocking and at work for the past four days, and I don't think that he's bothering to sleep.

Your bios template looks good. Which stress tests have you run and how long was each test?

It looks like you're good to go with making the changes for 3.825GHz if you don't mind taking a big jump. Sometimes 3.8GHz is pretty easy and other times it can be more difficult to get stable.

If you have any problems with booting or stress testing with 3.825GHz, give very specific details about the problems, such as boot loop, error beep codes while posting, BSOD #, etc. If you get a BSOD, post the error code which will be in the following format: 0x00000??? where "???" will usually be a combination of 1, 2, or 3 letters or numbers where any letters will be A, B, C, D, E, or F. Be sure to describe what your system was doing.

In windows, have you disabled auto reboot when a BSOD occurs? If not, do it now so that your can easily note the BSOD number and problem description in the BSOD screem (sic).

I hope that you've already saved your stable 3.645GHz bios settings as a profile.
    Any questions?

Of course he sleeps, that's what the 8+ hours blends are for.
