    Default Ga-ma790x-udp4

I have a system with following specs:

    GA-MA-790X-UDP4
    AMD Athlon X4 630
    GSKILL F2-8500CL5D-4GBPI-B (2 sticks of 2 Gigs) - running at 800

    All three components are new.

If I place either memory stick in any slot, memtest86 runs fine through a 9 hour run.

If I place both sticks in any combination of slots, memtest86 fails on test #2 (i.e within seconds) and reboots the machine.

I've posted on the GSKILL site and come to the conclusion it is not a memory issue -- mainly b/c other users with same combination of components are able to run fine. And b/c memtest86 passes for both sticks when taken individually.

So my question is: is this more likely to be a motherboard or a CPU issue?

    Thanks,

    R

    update bios

look @ your mb book and put ram sticks in channel A

    then load optimize defaults

    PS, I would run that ram @ 1066 5-5-5-15-T1

    I have a suggestion.
You have tested the memory and the motherboard memory slots as not being the issue. Problems with issue could be RAM, Power Supply, CPU, You will want to removing the CPU check the pins and inspect the socket. I have seen this issue many times before. The users found bent pins, and or thermal grease on the socket. Check these areas thoroughly. If the cpu socket is bad then rma the motherboard.

I guess I should have mentioned I've run prime95 -- both torture and the CPU intensive test for 9 hours without error (using a single stick).

Does that change your assessment? I don't want to take out my CPU unless absolutely necessary (pain to get in due to aftermarket cooler size)

    Thanks,

    R

You do not want to use memtest86. Use memtest86+v2.11 or v4.0
