Default GA-965P/DS3 and IO Front Panel

I would like to use the front panel on my system case, CM Stacker 830SE with my mobo GA-965P/DS3. I am confused on what module to use for the HD sound. The diagram for the Azalia HD does not match what the label on the cable on the I/O Panel list with what the diagram in the case manual shows for starters. I am waiting to see if Cooler Master will answer. As for the mobo, it has HD audio (Realtech), nothing for Azalia; these two HD audios are not interchanable are they? I thought Azalia was for an Intel chip. The sound is working, I am just trying to get the MIC working. The MIC works in the rear, but not easy to get to. Using the MIC, I can hear it thru the speakers, hence some feedback. How to correct this? Thanks.

My Cooler Master RC-690 front panel cable has two different connectors, one for HD Audio and one for AC'97.
The following is from the 965P-dq6 user manual:
By default, the audio driver is configured to support HD Audio. To connect an AC97 front panel audio module to this connector, please refer to the instructions on page 93 about the software settings.
It's my understanding that HD Audio uses the Azalia "electrical" pin-out setup and AC'97 is the older legacy "electrical" pin-out format. Both formats use the same type of physical connector, but the individual pins are "electrically" different.
This is why the Realtek software needs to be configured if you are using AC'97. Does any of the above jibberish help at all?

Have you configured the Realtek software to recognize the front panel MIC input?

my case has the same connectors, two black plastic blocks one ac97 and one hd audio, you need to enable or set to auto the azalia codec in the bios and connect just the hd audio connector to the motherboard then youll be able to use the front panel headphones and mic sockets

I did have the AUTO setting in BIOS for detect Azalia.... I was looking about for another setting that might just enable the front panel. The CM manual and the colors and configuration on the plugs were not matching, so that made it vague. Not being sure about the pins, I did nto want to arrrange them differently. The Azalia setting, I am still not sure I follow...isn't that an Intel chip?? I did reconnect the plug, it is working, but since I do not know the "why" it is working has me at a loss. Any further insight on this? Thanks guys.

you have two block connectors right?then you have about six or eight loose wires?ignore all the loose wires you just connect the hd audio block it has all the mic/headphones attached, azalia codec is gigabyte i think, you only disable it if your using your own soundcard,if your using onboard sound keep it enabled or better still on auto, then you wont have to mess with it

I've used the HD Audio connector in my RC-690 case with two different Gigabyte motherboards with no problems, but I've never used a microphone.
For your own piece of mind, see how Cooler Master responds.
