    Default GA-EP45-UD3L "boot loop" with 4-dimms

    Spanking-new board, and it wont POST if 4 dimms are installed. Ive read about the boot loop, but nothing I do fixes it. It would work for a bit when set at 800(native 1066), but now will only work with 2 sticks(optimized defaults). Otherwise, it runs rock solid.

    Ive checked each dimm and slot and all work fine. I even updated the BIOS(F9), per G.Skill thread, and set voltage 2.1v. Im wondering if its a power problem. PSU is cheaper than a RAM upgrade. Any help would be appreciated.

    E8400 @ 3ghz
    4x1gig G.Skill DDR2 1066, 2x F2-8500CL5D-2GBPK
    GForce 9800GT 1gig DDR3
    WD 140G HDD, SATA2
    WD 640G HDD, SATA2
    Lite-on DVD/CD-R/W, SATA
    Linksys wifi card

    PSU in question: xClio Goodpower 500w

    Timing 5-5-5-15
    Voltage 2.0V - 2.1V

    Changing your ram voltage to 2.1v would be my first step. If that does not work, I'd test the ram (one stick at a time).

    Edit: I'll read the entire post before responding in the future!


    I doubt your power supply is taxed. Test the ram, one stick at a time.

    With XMP auto the MB will set the voltage needed for 1066 correctly, you can verify it in PC Health Status.

    Set Performance Enhance standard, MCH Core 1.2v save reboot, then install all the memory. More MCH Core may be needed, 1.22-1.24v, but only increase it if you still can't boot.

    It is recommended to run memtest86+ for 6+ passes before attempting to start windows. Incorrect memory settings may lead to files/file system corruption.
    If you can't boot still, test one matched pair in slots 1 & 3 and then the other matched pair in slots 2 & 4. with memtest86+, to see if there's a problem with any of the slots in dual-channel mode.

    memtest86+ is not much os stress program, it can find bad memory and sometimes detect wrong settings.
    Running Prime95 blend torture for 8+ hours will give a higher assurance of stability. For memory stress you can customize if to use large FFTs (set min FFT to 128k).

    Monitor core temps for Prime95 with CoreTemp or RealTemp, they should be somewhere under 60c. Also keep an eye on system temperature in EasyTune HWMonitor tab if you have it installed.

    MCH Core that is too high or too low will cause boot loop or stability problems.
    With Optimized Bios Default settings loaded, the recommended settings in this post should help eliminate boot loop issues.

    Ive tried MCH Core at 1.2-1.24v, DRAM at 2.1v. Its not always a loop; sometimes it stays on but no video. Phase LEDs are G-G-Y-R everytime(not sure if that means anything?).

    All sticks work flawless in dual-channel, 1&3 and 2&4, just not at the same time. I tried with 3 sticks, and it almost POSTs, but stops counting RAM after 1st dimm, and goes into loop.

    Almost slipped my mind, what is the board revision (printed above the far PCI slot I/O panel side) and BIOS version?

    I should probably mention that this system is 2yrs old, only upgraded mobo recently. Replaced Asus P5QL-Pro that slowly died; aux USB headers, then NIC, then audio, then rear USB. Everything is the same except mobo.

    Settings and svreen capture don't add up.
    Is XMP Disabled and memory multiplier and standard timings set manually, or is XMP enabled and multiplier and standard timings auto?
