    Question X 4 955 BE, MA785GT, cpu cooler

    Dear TT forists,

i currently run my 955 @ 3997 (1.49V) cooled with a xigmatek dark knight. temps are at 62 C. There seem to be some more room, but i can't control the temps any more. @4017 the temps reach 70++ in a couple of minutes (prime95).

i am looking to buy the thermalright ultra extreme 120 (pure copper for looks) and wonder if the mobo can handle the weight (vertical install).

I that would work, i need two fans (cooling power and low noise) for the cooler. Any good recommendation here?

    thx
    mike

After a quick look on Google I would not go with a Thermalright TRUE Copper Ultra-120 eXtreme Cooler. http://www.thermalright.com/new_a_pa...opper-mcl.html
It seems that weight could be an issue with the Pure Copper @1900g heatsink alone. Thermalright TRUE Copper Ultra-120 eXtreme Cooler Review (page 5) - X-bit labs
Not without a little bit of case modifying or enginuity. You could find a way to support the excess weight. Like use a piece of copper wire to release some weight, or something like that. But then again the GA-MA785 is not in The list of compatible mainboards as shown above. The memory slots may be to close. It is possible it wont work at all.

My board looks very similiar to yours and I have a big asss, heavy coolermaster V8 on mine and its installed vertically.

U know 62c is safe max temps on that cpu. right? Arn't you scared?

If 4+ ghz is what u want, I would look into watercool solution if i were u

coolermaster V8 is only 865g Its made with aluminum. The issue is a pure copper which is more than twice the weight. @1900g before fans. Gigabyte does not recommend a cpu cooler with that much weight in an upright case. So modifications may be neccessary to reduce weight. It should clear the memory as the Thermalright ultra120Extreme would. It's just the Pure Copper is the difference here. It would be better if a coolermaster V8 or v10 was chosen. The v10 weight 1200g, but it has a seperate cooler for the memory and 2 fans with it.

i have a thermolab baram heatsink now, its only 625g in weight and supposed to be as good as the thermalright true,it doesnt come with any fans you need to buy one or two seperatly heres a link for reviews, youll have to google it to see where you can buy it in your country

ThermoLab Baram CPU Cooler (Socket AM2/AM3/LGA775/LGA1366) [] Cooling CPU Coolers

also the akasa nero 967 is just as good a cooler and it comes with a fan,i only changed cause it was a pain to fit with intel push pins but amd cam lever is different heres the link

whatever you do DONT but a coolit domino, ive had the hose snap off completely as i was installing it,very weakly built, the h50 has metal barbs and is much tougher than the domino + it lets you fit aftermarket fans to improve cooling

You will want to do something. The AMD PhenomII 955 has a maximum temperature rating of 62C. AMD Processors for Desktops: AMD Phenom?, AMD Athlon? FX, AMD Athlon? X2 Dual-Core, AMD Athlon?, and AMD Sempron? Processor
