Default Please explain - ”Support new SPI flash type: MXIC 25L1606E”

    Hello,

Gigabyte released a new bios for the GA-EX58-UD5 with the following description:

”Support new SPI flash type: MXIC 25L1606E”

Could someone please explain what this description means and/or what it is?

Any advantages in flashing (if applicable)?

    Thanks...

Yes, I too would like to see some kind of explanation. How is it that gigabyte can get away without publishing release notes with each update? A two work description is just no help at all in deciding whether a particular update is worthwhile.

    A glaring omission.

It sounds like the new bios supports an updated version of Q-Flash for your motherboard.
Enter Q-Flash from your main bios screen and see what Q-Flash version is currently displayed.

Don't hold your breath waiting for detailed release notes that include full descriptions of bios fixes, enhancements, or ongoing issues.

Try emailing Gigabyte tech support and see if they can explain the benefit or the new SPI flash type.
