    My Mushkin memory can only use 4-4-4-12 settings up to 875MHz.
    I think that the "broken" part might be due to using 4-4-4-12 memory timings at 900MHz.
    You might get better results by loosening the primary memory timings to 4-5-4-12 or 4-5-5-12.

    If you are still using the 2.00D memory multiplier, try switching to the 2.00B multiplier after trying the looser memory timings.
    If your system is stable with the 2.00B, you can also try using 2.40B x 450MHz for 1080MHz memory speeds with 5-5-5-15 timings.
    DRAM Voltage = 2.02 - 2.06 should work fine up to 1100MHz speeds.
    My memory is happy with tRFC = 50. You can try this after your system is stable.

    I'm not sure if it's necessary for MCH Reference and CPU Reference to be set manually with 450MHz FSB.

    Here we go again. These BIOS settings ran IBT 10 passes - happiness. Then I came back and tried to run IBT again and it failed after 5 passes with a BSOD and reboot. Seems like we are missing something that is causing this thing to have a mind of its own. Just for information here are a few of the things I tried before I thought it was stable:

    FSB 440, VTT 1.26, MCHCore 1.26 and DRAM at 2.06 - 9 passes and fail.
    FSB 440, VTT 1.26, MCHCore 1.28 and DRAM at 2.06 - 4 passes and fail.
    FSB 440, VTT 1.26, MCHCore 1.24 and DRAM at 2.06 - 4 passes and fail.
    FSB 440, VTT 1.26, MCHCore 1.26 and DRAM at 2.02 - 10 passes and ok.
    FSB 440, VTT 1.26, MCHCore 1.26 and DRAM at 2.02 - 5 passes and BOSD screen dump and reboot.

    I have tried VTT 1.28 and it has no positive effect.

    Any thoughts - other than the machine is broke?!

    What is the BSOD Code? 0x00000000

    You should try 1.3/1.32 Vtt as well, and test 2.00D. With MCH ref on auto for now ( think you have this, but just to be sure), and set your own tRD so you know for sure what it is and not causing an issue.

    Have you tried MCH Reference above default? CPU Reference 1-5 steps above/below default? Also with VTT 1.30/1.32.
    Channels Driving Strength 800/1066.
    Manual Static tRead Value 9-12.
    SMM 2.00D.
    Useually not needed at this frequency but try MCH and/or CPU Clock Skew 50-100.

    There's a newer BIOS for this board, consider updating. Remember, always flash with as stable settings as possible (non-OC).

    I think we're making progress but....

    Set Static Read to 10
    Set Driving Strength to 1066
    Ran IBT - Failed on 5th pass.

    Left tRead at 10 and Driving Strength at 1066 for the following:
    Set VTT to 1.30V - IBT failed on the 7th pass.
    Set VTT to 1.32V, Set ICH I/O to 1.57V - IBT failed on 9th pass.
    Left VTT at 1.32V, Set MCHCore to 1.28V and ICH I/O to 1.59V - IBT failed on 5th pass.
    Left VTT at 1.32V, Set MCHCore t0 1.26V and left ICH I/O at 1.59V - IBT failed on 9th pass.
    Left all of above and raised DRAM to 2.04V - IBT failed on 8th pass.

    Running out of the obvious stuff. At least raising the changes made above got rid of all the the Blue Screens Of Death and got it close to the FSB 440 finish line. Too bad 8 good IBT passes isn't considered a success!

    I was using 2.00D until a recently. I could go back if anybody really thinks that's the problem. Chike, I tried lowering the MCH Reference a while back based on your suggestion and it made thing worse. I have not tried increasing MCH Reference or modifiing CPU Reference. ProfJim, your leading on this adventure, what do you suggest to get this #$% thing over your self imposed the IBT 10 pass hurdle? Again, a little humor don't hang up on me fellas.

    The 2.00D is just something to check, may be part of the problem, may be not.
    I suggest you test the references if you have nothing else to do, and the clock skews as well, one at a time though.
    Just to exclude posibilities, raise you vcore a few or enable LLC. 1.4v is not really high voltage for your CPU, it's a 65nm processor with VID ranges 0.85-1.5v.

    Brute force works. I Enable LLC and ran 10 passes of IBT to completion on two separate occasions! The maximum temperature went up 3 or 4 C with the boost in voltage. Must be a combination of needing more voltage and also needing more VTT since voltage alone did not do the trick. It will be interesting to see how much voltage it will need to get to FSB 450. The Maximum temperature was 54C and 53C with the case cover off. How high can it go before I do damage and/or have to get a different cooler?

    Once you get into the upper 70's low 80's you need a better cooler, at load, until then you are fine really if you are OK with that. Voltage is fine up to 1.5 as long as your temps are good, and again that is up to you. MCH core should be ok 1.2-1.24 for your setup, you may want to go back now and test this on a lower amount now that you have learned what your board is liking for some of the other settings.

    Personally I rather keep my core temps 20c below TJmax, though I have ran a few tests that were 17c lower (83c for my CPU).
    See what unclewebb says, decide for yourself.
