I did what you said and i was able to go all the way to 490, and then when i tried 500 i was unable to boot windows and was forced to run the windows 7 repair tool. Is there anything i'm doing wrong? If possible ( i know it's a hassle ) can you give me some BIOS settings to work with using that form from my first post? I have some knowledge of overclocking, but when it gets to some of the finer details i tend to be a noob so any detailed advice will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks so far,
    Mason

Edit: also, for some reason memset 4.1 doesnt seem to be able to change my ram settings. Unless i'm doing it wrong. Once i select the settings i want, do i press apply or save? sorry if this is a noob question, haha

I didnt mean go for 490/500 straight away ,I meant in gradual stages up from 333,like Chilke is running over 400.
Anything much over 450 and there is a lot of tweaking involved and if u are on auto settings cpu term V and pll will go way high.
I remember having to use vista repair when i started clocking up first when I got to high fsb lvls.
There is a real "wall" around470-500 cpu ref for quads and settings there will be very processor/memory dependent.
I mean these are settings I use but chances are they wont work for u with a q6600 ,but could on 45nm quads ,even then memory differences could prevent them working.
Notice the big jump in some voltages needed for an increase of 10 mhz in cpu ref.
If i dropped the cpu ref down to 450 I could run my memory at 4-4-4-12 timings(900mhz mem speed) but would lose performance overall.

above 450 mhz a lot of the value will have to be entered manually especially the reference voltages.Edge up slowly from say 400 mhz cpu ref if thats working well ,like in 10 mhz steps and test.
Also check for old q6600 posts for settings that work well.

quad 45nm cpus for example arent supposed to be with over 1.3625V.. which is fine for me at 490 cpu ref.I need 1.39375 V in bios for 500 cpu ref but with vdroop etc in practice it runs at 1.367v.
quad 65nm cpus are supposed to be able to take a slightly higher voltage what that is u need to check for yourself,it should be on the intel spec sheet.
Intel recommends a max V of 1.2V for MCH. Im running way over that . then again so are a lot of others. etc etc.

    Hey,

I have just purchased this mobo and I have some ram that says 5 6 6 18 2.1.

I have never overclocked anyhthing before and all these crazy numbers are scary... anybody able to provide some guidance?

I have already overclocked the cpu. Q6600

Btw.. the ram is corsair xms2 ddr2 8000 or whatever that means. Your response would be highly valued :)

Can you please give us a link to your memory, or the model #?

Then also give us your full current BIOS settings in a template from my signature
