to check if its a short you need to set it up on a cardboard box outside the case, being watercooled this will be a big job,ive known psu's work fine in other systems but not on gigabyte boards so i would wait if you can for new one to arrive and test with that,if new psu doesnt fix it then try setup outside of the case, are you plugging ram into white slots only?? it should still fire up even without any fans attached

thank you for the quick reply.
I tried to check for shorts with the case by unscrewing the motherboard and sliding the sheet of foam it came with between them (easier than taking everything out with all the plumbing involved). I still could not boot.
Before this MB, I had a gigabyte P35-DQ6 in the same case, with a lot more copper, and had no such problem.
I noticed the metallic part beneath the MB, underneath the chipset, and taped paper on the case where it may have touched that. That didn't help either.
My ram sticks are in the white slots. I tried them one by one, no help.

I really hope my new psu will solve this, however i have some doubts, as my seasonic 600w works fine with my old P35-DQ6. Would you think it likelier to be a psu problem rather than a MB one?

from what ive seen with psu's i would say yes its highly likely that it is that, even if it works fine in your other system, just be patient and try your new psu, then if it isnt that you can test other things

no mb light come on on the mb itself??? only cmos button light?

Yes, just the clear cmos button on the back. Is that good or bad?

are you using the 24 pin mb plug from the psu to the mb? and the 8 pin plug from psu to the cpu power socket? or just the 4pin to cpu?

I'm using both 24atx connector and the 8pin cpu connector.

i cant really think of anything else you could try,if nothings coming on apart from the cmos button light it lookslike psu incompatibility but i cant be 100% sure, it just wont power up or maybe power up and loop over and over if it was the psu

    well, it didn't help...
I took everything appart, removed the cpu waterblock to take it out of the case and put the ventirad instead, and tried to boot it with just CPU+ one RAM stick. Nothing. With both old and new psus.

The psu refuses to boot as soon as I jack in the ATX connector (if I short the green and black pins, with everything else connected, included the 2x12v for the CPU, it starts fine). I'm trying to find on the surface of the motherboard itself if anything looks suspicious, but I can't say I know what i'm looking for.

I took out the cpu, it looks fine, the socket does not have any bent pin.

Nothing. My computer is just one very expensive mass of hardware whose sole function seems to be to light that clear cmos button.

    I'm open to ideas.
