Thanks for the reply. I decided to let Dave's Computers check over my assembly. I'm really hoping that I did something stupid. But I don't have much dumb luck. Yes, I tried taking the mobo out of the case to test for shorts. It required some ingenuity to get the cables to reach from the Haf 932, it is deep. Steve

The problem was a bent pin on the motherboard around the cpu.
Maybe, I had a hard time getting the fan off and it didn't come out straight.

I am waiting for the replacement motherboard to arrive. It is delicate work to straighten pins, and the shop wanted $200 to do it, I told him I could almost buy a new motherboard for that price. He told me
that he diagnosed this situation by taking the cpu out of the motherboard. He said the system then had power, at least to the fans. I tried to duplicate this test when I got home, but all I got was the same old blue blinking lights (cmos clear and power button). Has anyone tried this test? I'm hoping that I don't have to replace the cpu too. They didn't have an extra cpu this new (i7) to swap out with. If there is such a test (no cpu), I'm thinking of trying it on the new motherboard before installing the cpu. I want to see a fan work, any fan.

Just RMA the board to Gigabyte, no need to pay $200 to him!!

If there is no CPU installed, nothing will work. He is just making things up and besides, for any fan on the motherboard to even spin the system has to start anyhow.

And I'm sure your CPU is fine, as long as it was not DOA when you got it.

Eureka, It Lives!! I had 6 gigs of ram installed and it recognized all of it, also my Geforce 9600 Verto(for video editing and CS5) My monitor lit up and I could go into Bios Setup. The POST screen went by so fast I couldn't tell my Bios version, I didn't see it in Bios setup yet. I think I got those little two strand wires connected properly, the power switch and reset work. Thanks for your support, especially letting me know the cpu was probably good. I'm going to try to dual boot Windows 7 and Snow Leopard and that will be fun compared to having "no power" Also the psu short the green wire/black wire test was good advice. I have a Cooler Master V8 but the stock fan is installed.

Nice to hear you now have a working system! To check BIOS version press F9 in the MAIN page of the BIOS.

So, how did you end up getting it fixed, did they switch out boards for you or did someone fix your pins?
