Exclamation GA-X58A- HDA Header Hardware Issue

    All,

I have been able to collect a little information regarding an issue that appears to be spreading through out the GA-X58A- range.

I've just RMA'd c/o Overclockers UK my GA-X58A-UD7 and Gigabyte have confirmed the fault and replaced.

My thinking is that this is not isolated, considering I know of at least 16 boards in Austrailia with the problem and now a GA-X58A-UD3R with the same issue.

All GA-X58A- owners, if you are using Intel HDA for audio it would be great to hear from you and whether or not you have this isssue as well. ** This does not affect AC'97 users **

    The fault in summary:

Intel HDA allows for jack insertion detection. The problem appears to be with the internal audio header on the GA-X58A- boards. If you connect up an Intel HDA compliant front panel and insert either headphones or microphone then the management software will not be able to detect correctly the jack insertion and will pop in and out repeatedly.

Please note that this does not affect the rear audio connectors.

If we can assertain the numbers of boards affected by this issue, then perhaps we can get Gigabyte to do a recall.

    TIA,
    K

Upgraded today from GA-EX58-UD3R (rev. 1.0) to GA-X58A-UD3R (rev. 1.0). Headphones detected correctly when plugged into the Intel HDA front panel jack.

Installed my replacement mobo today, same problem still. Gonna wait for new frontpanel header from Coolermaster and see if that fixes it. Will keep thread updated.

    Hey All,

It would appear that this is in fact not a hardware issue at all as I have just received an updated Realtek driver from Gigabyte Australia which resolves this issue. See our this forum post for a link to the driver till its officially listed on Gigabytes website. Scorptec Community View topic - Gigabyte EX58A Audio Driver Update

I'm using the official Realtek driver R2.43 (feb. 25) and seems to be working fine. Btw the title of the post on scorptec.com.au is wrong "Gigabyte EX58A Audio Driver Update", it should read X58A, the previous mb series were EX58.

    Hi,

Just received my board back from GB today, it doesn't appear as though anything has been done on the board, but will test and report back. Will also test driver, however having had a support call open with GB for 2 months regarding this, you would have thought they'd of known if a driver was a fix or not.

    Thanks,

According to scorptek the fixed driver version is R2.44, currently available for download from GB is R2.41.

    Hi All,

Well some bad news, my replacement board is still showing the same issue.

The new driver R2.44 didn't fix the issue and neither did R2.41.

So I'm wondering, does the driver only fix issues with the UD3 boards? Or does my UD7 have a separate issue....

Did you fully uninstall the old driver before trying the new one? I would do that now if you did not, and possibly also use a driver cleaner as well before installing the new driver.

I just got back online after being unable to for months so I am not aware of this issue myself as of yet but just thought I would chime in with my thoughts on your driver testing while I was here. Hope it helps, if not you could ask Realtek directly if they fixed on UD3R or also UD7, they should reply to you fairly quickly
