Default Re: Question re: bios settings & RealTemp for EP45-UD3P (1.6)

I just ran Prime95 (torture test blend, default settings) for 12 hours w/o a crash. (Before it was crashing at 5-7) so there's improvement. I've attached the new bios settings and Screens you requested. Once i get your feedback on these settings i'll go for a 24 hour run.

Lsdmeasap - I tried changing tRTP to 5, but when I would run memset it would show 7 each time. When I set it to auto it shows as 6 (see the SS)

profjim- Prime is using defaults @ minFFT(8) maxFFT (4096) memory to use (1600). OCCT I used default settings as well for a 1h test.

Thanks again Guys! I feel like I'm almost there!

Default Re: Question re: bios settings & RealTemp for EP45-UD3P (1.6)

    Your bios settings look good.
In your bios template, always show the values that you've manually set, not the values displayed in Memset.
You should always include the following settings in your bios template:
    CPU Clock Ratio ---------------------- : [##]
Fine CPU Clock Ratio ----------------- : [0.0] <--- ignore if not available
CPU Frequency ---------------------: #### <--- this is set by the bios (CPU Host Frequency X CPU Multiplier)

Memory Frequency (Mhz) ------------: #### <--- this is set by the bios (CPU Host Frequency X System Memory Multiplier)

With 8GB of memory, the following Advanced Timing settings might be stable with your system:
    3-3-5-72-3
Another option is to set Performance Enhance = Turbo, keep tRFC = 72,and set the remaining Advanced Timing options to AUTO.
Either of these options, if stable, should give you a small boost in memory performance.

If you decide to try these setting, perform an initial IBT or LinX 10 loop stress test using the maximum amount of available memory.
If this test completes without errors, procede with your 24 hour tests.

For my "final" overclock, I run:
    1) Prime95, 3 separate 24 hour tests using Blend, Small FFT, and Large FFT
    2) OCCT PSU test for 2 - 4 hours
    3) Furmark for 2 - 4 hours
    4) Additional tests based on your primary usage, including encoding, demanding games, etc.

Some values displayed in Memset always differ from the values set in your bios
    Taken from Lsdmeasap's guide:

    * ACT to ACT Delay (tRRD)________________ 3-4
    * Rank Write to READ Delay (tWTR)_______ (4-6) 9-11 (Note Actual Value set in BIOS Vs. What system Uses will be 7+)
    * Write to Precharge Delay (tWR)_________ 3-5 ----- (Note Actual Value set in BIOS Vs. What system Uses will be 5+)
    * Refresh to ACT Delay (tRFC)___________ 38-42 (2X1GB) 52-62+ (2x2GB)
    * Read to Precharge Delay (tRTP)_________ 3-6 ----- (Note Actual Value set in BIOS Vs. What system Uses will be 2+)
    * Static tRead Value (tRD)______________ (5/6) 7-10 (800Mhz) 7-12 (1066Mhz)
    * Static tRead Phase Adjust______________ 1-31*

    +1 ^^

tRTP is normally +2 from what you set, so Auto was using 4

    Hey Guys!

I ran the LinX test for 10 passes and went swimmingly , and am now going to move on to the prime95 24 hour runs.

Last question (hopefully) is on a system freeze I've had happen randomly even with the tweaking done to my bios. During this process I've had the computer freeze and have a stuttering sound through the speakers (looping the same last sound that was played) this has happened randomly when leaving on over night, surfing the web, etc... It's only happened about 4 times but is shared by an event in my error log of "Error Code 42 Kernel Power - Task 63". I've searched this extensively online and it seems that it's related to a number of different things, but I would think it's hooked to the hardware changes/bios changes I've been working with here.

Any ideas? The system is working with the stress tests but I'm wondering where this error may be coming from.

    Two points:

    1) my bios settings haven't changed from what was previously posted

    2) before this, my system had a C2D and a Radeon 4850 and I hadn't experienced these issues.

    Thanks in advance! :) :)

That does have to do with your power plan, such as sleep settings, monitor settings, hard drive power, ect. Which plan are you using, and have you changed anything in it this time that you did not before?

Be sure you set hard disk to Never Sleep, this could be the issue - default is 20 minutes on several plans

Do you have sleep enabled, and do you use it often? Also if so, can you manually sleep and resume without issues?

Can you also find the BSOD Code in Event Viewer for these times, if so what is it?

Did you do a clean install when you moved to quad?

Right now I'm on my high-performance power plan, I'll be changing the settings to leave the other HD on shortly (I currently use a SSD & regular HD). I was using balanced before which changed CPU speed via policy, but I turned that off w/ high-performance.

I do have sleep enabled, but since I've installed windows on this go-round I have it disabled as before I had an issue where my mouse/keyboard wouldn't work on wake up. I was going to wait until I was finished stress testing to enable. I can manually sleep/resume w/o issue.

I never actually got a BSOD, like i said the screen image was frozen with the sound loop in my speakers. Here is the output from the event log:

I did do a clean install when I moved to quad.

Thanks man!!! I really appreciate it! :)

That is likely the problem, balanced with CPU changing speeds and your overclock. You do have C1E and EIST disabled right?

Hey, that's code 41 kernel error not 42. Same thing though, this appears to be more specific/prominent with Windows 7.

Hopefully the power plan switch and disable hard drive sleep will help. If not, you may have to move to Vista J/K

Are your power supply rails within spec? Just checking

I actually have C1E and EIST enabled for power saving... with my bios tweaks would that cause windows to be an unhappy camper? It seems that error code 41/63 is pretty common surprisingly.

    hahaha, funny :P

I tested my PSU yesterday and I got the green light on each (i have a cheapo tester) except for the -5v which isn't included on the ATX12V spec. As for actual numbers, it looks within range on BIOS.

Also, I tweaked my dram voltage to 2.12 because @ 2.1 it would show 2.08 in the bios.

Is there a more specific/better way to check the PSU voltages?

Well then that is probably more than half the problem, you cannot use C1E and EIST and easily overclock. It can be done, but I advise you to disable it until you are done tweaking and are sure you are stable. Then enable and start tweaking all over again, because it will most often be needed again due to that being enabled.

You can check PSU With Everest Ultimate, in the sensor section. Other than that a better ($20-25) tester would be needed that shows rail values, or a DMM. If you need a suggestion on a good tester I can show you one, I think I paid $20-25 for mine and it shows rail values.

Sorry for my newb-ness, so even though I'm not overclocking the processor, by tweaking the voltage to use 8 gigs of ram properly with my CPU at stock speeds i'm still "overclocking"?

I'm just hoping that this is a settings issue, and since my RAM passed memtest and the new CPU did linX for 10 passes i can rule out the hardware for replacement.
