Thumbs up Re: GA-X58A-UD3R - Can only see 8GB of 12GB with Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit

I exchanged the memory for new memory, replaced it and now my system sees all 12GB of RAM and it's all usable.

    Thanks everyone for your help

I exchanged it for the same set. When I purchased the original set, it was an open box item and I should have known better!

I'm having this same issue with the GA-X58-UD4P. Have we netted out on a real solution here?

Most often this is a bent CPU Socket pin, CPU needs reseated, not enough/too much heatsink pressure or you are not using enough QPI/Vvtt voltage. If you think you are using enough QPI/Vtt (1.35+) then I would check the socket very closely, be super careful as a few users I know have bent things up just checking it out.

It can also be faulty memory though, but this is usually not the case. Have you tested each stick on by one? Do that, test each stick one at a time in one slot, then test the next slot with all three, then the next. White slots only.

So this is weird. After clearing the CMOS and rebooting, my system recognized all 12 again.

Then, it went back to only seeing 8.

I started pulling sticks and through the process of elimination, I thought I'd found the bad stick, but only one. Made me wonder why the system would only see 8 of the 12 gig if only 1 2 gig stick was bad? Is this due to how the slots read triple channel?

Anyway, I started to replace it all to see what would happen. Keep in mind, these were two different sets of OCZ Gold 1600 same spec, but purchased months apart. So, I replaced the older set (which were all good) by serial number order (XXX-1, XXX-2, XXX-3) in the corresponding white slots and booted. Perfect.

Then, I replaced the second set (the one with the bad stick) into the blue slots using the same sequential order and rebooted. Perfect again.

Now all 12 gig are recognized. WTF is that?

Let's see how long it works - maybe a low voltage problem. check in the bios if there is enough ram juice supplied..maybe set a notch higher

Yes, we'll see. I'm taking a break for a few days so I'll post when I return.

Nice to see it's working now though, could have just not been sitting in the slot fully and maybe contact was nit or miss.
