It can also be faulty memory though, but this is usually not the case. Have you tested each stick on by one? Do that, test each stick one at a time in one slot, then test the next slot with all three, then the next. White slots only.
    Thank You Admin,

I have 12GB of Corsair Dominator DDR3 1600Mhz Ram, I tried everything and then I came across your forum. The issue was exactly as described by previous members I could see all 12GB in BIOS and in Windows, however only 8GB were usable.

Tracking back through my upgrades and various steps that I took along the way I remembered that I recently did a minor update from i7 930 to 950, indeed a minor update that cost me one of the pins in my CPU to be slightly bent. Thanks god for your forum, cause I was going nuts doing everything I could think of and seeing all 6 Memory chips in BIOS and in CPU-Z, yet not being able to utilize all of them.

To make a long story short, I took out the CPU as you suggested and carefully inspected all of the pins, one of the pins was slightly out of place. I used my pocket knife to carefully bend it back in place. Next, I only installed 3 memory chips first, to make sure that they would POST fine. Entered BIOS and updated the memory settings to PROFILE 1 settings (that automatically found Extreme Memory Profile with 1600 Mhz and 1.65V) then I would reboot my PC and add 1 memory chip at a time, until I was done adding all 6 chips = 12GB.

I allowed the computer to fully boot into Windows and verified under System Settings that indeed I had 12GB and all of which was now usable. Finally, I re-ran my Windows Experience Index (WEI) and got a score of 7.8

Result, I am a happy camper now :-)

p.s. something is up with the speed of my new SATA3 CRUCIAL C-300 SSD Drive, WEI index score has dropped from 7.9 to 5.9 now sure what it is, that is my next step to fixing my gaming machine.

Thank you my friend, funny enough I had the AHCI mode enabled, but somehow the score went down. So, this time I went into the Advanced Tools, and ran the test using Clear All Windows Experience Index Scores and re-rate the system, this time the SSD did it's job and went back up to 7.9 :-)

Now I am 100% happy camper!!! Thank you once again for such a speedy reply.
