How about trying to format and partition only one drive connected to the Sata2_2 port with your SSD on Sata2_0. Then reboot and connect the other 750GB hdd, to Sata2_3 and see if you can format and partition the 2nd hdd.

Another option might be to format and partition each of the drives using an hdd tool cd/dvd from the manufacturer of your auxiliary hard drives.

    Unfortunately...no dice.
Each formats fine separately and can be seen when hooked up individually [Storage1 or Storage2 each with 698.63GB Healthy Partitions.]
If I hook the other one up, it remains invisible.
I even uninstalled the Gigabyte SATA2 RAID drivers under Add/Remove programs as well as Uninstalled RAID under Device Manager/Disk Drives. This just dropped the optical drives plugged into the purple ports so I reinstalled the Gigabyte drivers.
In Computer Management/Disk Management I can see only one with both hooked up, but can see each individually when hooked up alone.
The Gigabyte driver that installs is where the RAID is coming from that shows up in Device Manager. But since neither of those drives are plugged into the purple ports I don't understand why that driver would even be associated.
There's nothing set up as RAID for the Intel controller and if I open Intel Matrix Storage Manager I can see both of the Model Numbers of the hard drives listed as well as the SSD.
I just can't figure out why both can't be seen at the same time as separate drives when no RAID is set up and they have both been independently formatted.

you could have done the reg tweak to enable ahci without re installing windows then you would see whether any drives dissapeared

So who can help Jerm1970 with the AHCI/RAID registry trick/tweak where:
    1) his SSD o/s boot drive will operate in AHCI mode
    2) he can run his 2 sata hard drives as a raid array
    3) his two sata optical drives will work
Can all this be done without adding a raid controller card?

to enable ahci in windows 7 without re-installing
    1.Exit all Windows-based programs.
2.Click Start, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
3.If you receive the User Account Control dialog box, click Continue.
4.Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESystemCurrentControlSetServicesM sahci

5.In the right pane, right-click Start in the Name column, and then click Modify.
6.In the Value data box, type 0, and then click OK.
7.On the File menu, click Exit to close Registry Editor.

restart pc and go in bios, enable ahci and save exit, then when you start windows again it will install the ahci drivers

I really appreciate the help guys! Although, I'm already in AHCI mode. The BIOS was set before install, but the optical drives don't like it.
They're in the purple Gigabyte ports now. I haven't tested burning yet, but Onboard SATA controller is set to IDE now.

The real problem is being able to access and see the 2 other drives, just as individual drives..no RAID.
They'll each sow up independently if plugged in by themselves, but together only one is visible (except on boot and in Intel Matrix Storage Manager GUI)
SSD wouldn't play friendly with a reg. tweak to change modes which is why I'd need to frash install if I changed to RAID.
But I'm good without having them in RAID, just need to see them both at the same time.

Seriously, I do appreciate the help!

Please correct me if this is wrong, with your current setup:
    1) Your SSD o/s boot disk is functioning at its full potential with AHCI enabled, using the yellow sata2_0 port.
    2) Both sata optical drives are fully functional right now when they are both connected via the purple GSata ports.
    3) Only one of your two sata hard drives is currently recognized when they are both connected to the yellow sata2_2 and sata2_3 ports.

    Bingo.
That's exactly the issue. I need to thoroughly test the CD/DVD burners, but they appear to be 'normal'.
Can't figure out the sata hard drive problem at all. :(

if the cd/dvd drives don't work correctly it's because you're running RAID even though you have the dvd drives set to IDE...normally sata dvd burners have issues with RAID & it has to be disabled in the mobo bios.

Sounds like you have to disconnect everything and reinitialize the drives with the manufacturers software one at a time with a format, AFAIK.
