    i have the E8400 at 4Ghz, with a 450FSB on this mobo, so i'm curious to see if the E8600 can operate with its 10x multiplier at 450FSB. also, my experience, and an Antech review of this mobo shows that anything over a 450FSB is a unstable.



    4.1 GHz - 456x9 Passed 5 Torture tests, but failed repeatedly. 450FSB with these settings proved stable.

    I've tried to run the 10 multi with 450 FSB and the temps were a little on the warm side for 24/7 use. I backed it down to 9.5 multi and temps are good for 24/7 use and very stable. I ran LinX last night to verify my RIG is still stable. "GOOD to GO" I'm very busy at work at the moment - but when I get a chance I'll check out the 10 multi 450 FSB and get back with you. Here's the results of last nights test...

    I think Ive mentioned this before but my theory goes something like this.
    Considering an aircooled system
    and 45 memory controller hub with ddr2 stick(s)
    Maximun memory bandwidth read =9-10gb/s, write/copy 10-11+ gb/s latency in and around 60 ns depending on timings etc.

    If you use one stick of say 1gb memory only you might exceed that.

    Since were in the "usable pc" world youre going to have at least 2 sticks of ddr2 memory and probly 2x2GB sticks minimum(more sticks ,more strain on the nb and they may not be a binned set of 2,or 4..

    Try using that memory bandwidth and latency as your board overclock limiting factors.

    Some do have a problem over 450 cpu ref(1800 fsb) some dont.
    the board is designed for 1600 fsb np
    You have 4 main things to consider(aside from the power drain and communication complexities of 2 gx cards.)

    1.all overclocks have to work thru the nb or memory control hub
    2. the cpu overclock(supposed to be the best)most decent intel cpu's do 50% overclock on air.
    3.the memory overclock.a bit more complex but lets say low timing 800 rated memory can do a 25% overclock.1066 rated memory will do less.
    4.the mbrd overclock .Our one will do 25%(1600-2000 fsb ok and more)

    It seems (to me) it all comes back to the chipset tho..if you try and force a bandwith in excess of the 45's capabilities,your overclock wont work reliably.
