    Angry Fan speed problem

    Hi everyone

I've done a search for this problem but all I can find is OC posts, hopefully this hasn't been posted before.

    I have a GA-EX58-UD5 with a Intel i7 920 cooled by a Corsair H50.

The problem I have is that the fan is too loud, it's constantly whizzing along at top speed.

I thought it might be the Corsair fan so I swapped it for an Akasa Apache Black 120mm fan, and though it is now quieter it is still unacceptably loud, and it's still running at 1350-1450rpm.

I have enabled CPU smart control in the BIOS but it doesn't make a difference. It says in the manual that installing Easy Tune will allow me to manaully control fan speed, but I don't want that, I want it to automatically detect temperatures and adjust accordingly.

Thank you in advance for any replies, this racket it drivng me round the bend!

    Many thanks :)

Thanks for the reply and screenshots, that's really useful!

I wanted to keep everything as automatic as possible, I do a lot of video encoding and leave the machine running on it's own so I don't want to be checking things manually.

The Easy Tune Smart Fan setting is set to auto, but it doesn't seem to make a difference...I wonder if it's working actually as there is no difference between auto and disable - the fan is still running at 1406rpm. :(

    Thanks for the reply again!

    In PC health status:
CPU smart fan control = Enable
CPU smart fan mode (auto, voltage, PWM), is set to auto

    Still no improvement :(

Yup tried that, it doesn't work either *sob*

It is a 4 pin connector.

When I was researching why it wasn't working (before I posted here) I came across some threads (lost them now) that mentioned other people were having the same problems with this board...could it be a design issue?

Hmmm, that's not going to work either unfortunately.

I only found about Easy Tune a few days ago as I was reading the motherboard manual, I was just trying to get it to work from the BIOS before, so it's the latest version downloaded from the website, on a fresh install.

Could the BIOS need updating? I have had the board a few months and haven't updated it...not sure of the risk free way (if that's possible) of updating it.

Have you any suggestions? That's about the last option I've got I think.
