    Default GA-EP45-UD3LR OC'ing/stability oddness

    Hi all.

    I have been sent over this way by a guru3d member in the hopes of getting an issue sorted.

    I have got the EP45-UD3LR mobo with a Q8300 and 4GB DDR2 800 ram.

    I have it overclocked as follows:

    CPU 3.75Ghz (2.5 stock)
    FSB 500Mhz (333 stock for my cpu)
    RAM 1:1 1000Mhz (Stock 800)
    CPU 1.4v (1.36 in windows)
    CPU PLL 1.550v
    CPU Term 1.4v
    MCH Core 1.4v
    DRAM 2.00v
    Timings 7-7-7-21

    With those settings i have the system stable in prime 95, orthos and intel burn test with a max temp of 80c on the cpu with intel burn test.

    My games are all running fine bar one... Counter Strike Source + any other source engine based game.

    Its the only one im having issues with. The game will either crash as soon as i join a server or after a few seconds/mins of game play.

    Im hoping someone here might have a clue as to whats going on and maybe even how to fix it.

    Well first I must say your MCH Core voltage is way too high, nothing to do with your issue though. Can you please link you ram as well, timings seem to be very loose unless they are cheap memory.

    Are you using the latest BIOS? How are you connecting to the internet, wireless or via the Realtek chip? If Realtek, are you using the latest driver?

    So it does only happen when connected right? You can play games vs the PC or otherwise by yourself right? If so, then it would seem to me that this would be network related.

    Hi,

    My MCH is now 1.2v

    As for the ram..

    the stock timings are 6-6-6-18, The ram is cheap unbranded ram from ebuyer.co.uk but cpuz sees the ram as crucial ram.

    I am using F7 bios as F10 bios wont work with my current oc settings for some reason. so i went back to F7

    I do not think this is a network related issue as the game still crashes even if I start a local server and try to play.

    I dont think this is just CS:S crashing as i was playing COD and after about 10 mins my pc locked up. Seems hit and miss when it comes to when it crashes but css is the worst.

    Its just so odd that after testing my OC with all kinds of stess testing that it shows as stable, even fur mark to stress my GPU was stable and still going after 30 mins and yet i open css and it would crash even tho its not stressing my system no where near as much as intel burn test etc was under testing.

    Ahh ok, I thought it may be cheaper ram, those timings are ok then. Is it 2 or 4 GB? If 4GB you may need 1.2-1.24 MCH, but should not need 1.4 at all for what we are talking here.

    When you change BIOS you almost always need to retweak things, since there is many changes between BIOS versions the same settings are not always going to work, sometimes you need more or less of any one setting. I do suggest you use the latest, just retweak things again like you just started, of course you already have an idea that should be close to what you need though. Just don't expect the same settings to work as there are many changes each time they update them, this would be especially true when going from 7 to 10.

    Well you said server or connecting to the game, so I was not sure. What you say now still sounds network related to me, or at least the network part of the game drivers possibly. If your PC locks up when you play by yourself, with no server connections then you are not as stable as you originally thought. What stress testing have you done besides IBT and furmark, and for how long are you running these tests?

    Hi, i have upgrade back to F10 bios and im having the same damn problem i did last time :(

    Anything over 400 fsb will NOT work.. It will post but windows will not load and it also locks up while in the bios.

    So at the moment on F10 bios with 400MHZ max FSB witch is stock for this mobo anyway.

    The ram is 2x2Gb.

    Stress testing was done for 30 mins at a time using IBT, Prime 95 and orthos.

    No errors at all from any of them yet the system was still unstable.

    But at the moment with the F10 bios i can not overclock the FSB AT ALL :(

    400 FSB is not stock, what do you mean by that?

    400 is stock??

    This mobo has a 1600 fsb witch is 400*4

    my cpu has an fsb of 333 so im only overclocking the cpu atm.

    Will get template up later.

    That is just "Official Spec" which means officially it is capable to run 400Mhz, meaning they will support your 400Mhz related questions is all. The board will run 500+ FSB

    those are the settings i have tried also with slightly diffrent voltages but not exceeding 1.6 on the cpu, 1.4 on the MCH, 2.20 DRAM and 1.4 for cpu ref.

    500 FSB may not be possible with this budget board, this may be part of the issue. Are you sure those CPU's can do 500 FSB easily, just checking cause not many people use them so I am unsure.

    Try these changes for 500 FSB, if you don't get anywhere you may need to use less FSB
