    Question Overclocking i7 980x with gigabyte x58 extreme

    I am trying to OC this i7 980x to 4.0 with a bclock of 200 but every time I try it will not boot in to windows the only way I can get it to boot up is at 160 bclock with a multi x25 I am running the latest bios f12 and running 1600ghz crucial bal. mem I can get my CPU up to 4.2 with a lower bclock then 200 but as soon as I get close to 200 it shuts down any suggestions?

    I think SSD's are getting acceptable really now, not as cheap as they should be, but much better than they have been the past few months.

    $1000 is just way to much for a CPU that will only be worth 400-500 in a year

    I got my Cpu at Frys for $980.00 :-) well this is what i got so far to be stable @4.0 with max load temps of 56c

    did you try the intel heatsink?? what were the temps like with it? its a direct touch heatpipe cooler,temps are good but it is 32nm

    no I didn't try the intel heatsink but it dose look like it can cool the cpu down but since I already had the noctua I just used that plus it's a much better cooler
