without being able to pass Furmark for at least 30min and at the best 1 hr+ is kind of useless.......

However if BIOS F6 really can do 1000MHz+ on core without system freeze during Furmark xtreme burning mode, I would like to flash it back to F6 and give it a try.

I can overclock above 1000MHz with the original BIOS version as well as F7 without a problem but the point is, is it able to pass Furmark or not at 1000MHz and above. If not then I don't see any reason.

Does anyone here have a proof that they clocked at 1000Mhz+ and stable?

I've just flashed back to F6 and ready to test if it really works or not.

    Update

When I changed the voltage on OC Guru stock vs adjusted. The GPU Power watts increases, so I guess it works in F6.

F6 Core clock lowered during idle and 2D compared to the original while memory stays the same
F7 both core and mem clocks are lowered during idle and 2D
these changes are made for power consumption reasons.

The difference between F7 and F6 is that F7 will hardlock with clock set high and running Furmark, F6 will just show artifacts.

F6 seems to be more stable.

The card just hardlocked, not sure what I've done wrong.

F7 also enhanced the Memory timing resulting in higher performance...

I ended up flashing back to the latest BIOS version F7.

But for those who are using or going to use Gigabyte OC Guru then stick to F6 for best stability and compatibility.

F7 with OC Guru is unstable but I prefer the performance outcome of the F7 as well as better power consumption and low idle/2D temp.

    F7 = Performance BIOS + Low Power Consumption + Low Idle/2D Temp
F6 = Stable BIOS + Works well with OC Guru

Both overclocking ability is the same except version F7 will have higher performance outcome.

I currently have my Gigabyte HD 5870 (GV-R587UD-1GD) core @ 950Mhz, mem @ 1300MHz. Passed Furmark Xtreme Burning Mode over 1hr+ @ 68~69 degree celcius 100% full load.

It is really up to the card ,some overclock great and some not so great. One of my cards would do 1100mhz with 1.289v and hit around 65c when benchmarking ,but my other card would not do 1100mhz at even the max voltage of 1.302v,it would do 1048mhz at 1.277v.But I have not tried it with cross-fire yet ,I just want to be able to hit 1000/1250 when I get it all set up.It may or may not do it ,I will find out soon. But I used the F6 Bios and the MsiAfterburner version 160Beta5 to set the core and memory and the Gigabyte Guru OC to set the voltage. When I get Windows 7 pro 64bit installed and cross-fire install ,I will see what it will do then. But with the one card and vista ultimate 32bit I could run any benchmark Fur-mark ,Vantage ,and 3DMark 06,at 1100mhz and 1250mhz on the memory I could probally ran the memory a little higher but I was just trying to see how high I could get the core to run.I have not tried the F7 Bios because I have had such good luck with F6 Bios. What do you mean by F7 being a Performance BIOS if F6 is more stable.I ran the cards independently so I could see what each card could do.

well I used the MSI Afterburner version 1.5.1. Not sure if the newer beta will result better in overclocking ?

I really want to get to 1000Mhz for core and Furmark pass over 1hr.

I am flashing back to F6 again to try with the newer beta Afterburner together with OC Guru.

PS: Don't use OC Guru with F7 because they don't work well together. I think that is due to the changes of Voltage / Power Saving / Clock Frequency in F7.

PS2: It is a fact however that F6 is better for overclocking. But I would recommend F7 for people that don't do overclocking or just a bit of overclocking.

OMG it worked................ after gaming Max temp 53 degree celcius

    You must have below:

*vga_bios_gvr587ud-1gd_f6 (Gigabyte HD 5870 Ultra Durable BIOS Version "F6")
    *MSIAfterburnerSetup160Beta5 (MSI Afterburner "1.6.0 Beta 5")
*vga_utility_oc_guru (Gigabyte OC Guru from Official Page)

Above must match exactly and then GV-R587UD-1GD Unleashed

Currently Burning passed 1hr~ (Core 1000MHz Mem 1300MHz)
